Netflix Releases First Look at Celebrity Filled ‘Squid Game’ the VIP Challenge

Netflix is adding to its collection of reality competitions with a new show called Squid Game: The VIP Challenge. Unlike the original, this version features eight celebrities competing in the same dangerous games, but with a focus on their experience as VIPs.

The streaming platform recently announced that a group of VIP contestants will compete by using their intelligence, planning skills, and abilities in a challenging setting. The group includes well-known people from sports, music, and reality TV.

The competition includes Mel B, a member of the Spice Girls, and NBA champion Tristan Thompson, both known for their drive to win. They’ll be facing off against Hannah Godwin from The Bachelor, Kim Zolciak, formerly of Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Ryan Serhant, a successful real estate investor famous for his show Owning Manhattan.

The show will also star Dylan Efron, a popular creator known for his travel and adventure videos, and digital creator Kristy Sarah. Adding an exciting twist, Viper—a former contestant who won a fan vote last season—is returning to compete in the VIP edition.

Netflix hasn’t announced the prize money or the games yet, but the competition is expected to be as mentally and physically demanding as the last one. Viper, a returning player, has promised to shake things up and create some trouble when he rejoins the game.

He learned from past experience that it’s crucial to think through every decision carefully, and he plans to scrutinize every step he takes. This careful approach will be important, because the show is known for its harsh eliminations and unexpected surprises.

As a huge fan, I’m so glad to see the Squid Game universe still going strong on the streaming service! The original Korean drama wrapped up its final season in June 2025, which was bittersweet, but then Squid Game: The Challenge just finished its second season in late 2025 and they’ve already announced a third! It’s awesome to see so much content still being made.

Reviewers have pointed out that the reality show successfully recreates the captivating feeling of the original series, though it doesn’t offer the same insightful social observations. One critic noted the games are still very entertaining if viewers avoid overthinking the ethical issues involved.

Before competing in The VIP Challenge, the celebrity contestants have been working on other things. Mel B has been hinting at a possible 30-year Spice Girls reunion, and Dylan Efron just started a new YouTube show called Everything’s a Competition.

As filming on the celebrity version nears completion, fans are excited to find out when it will air and who will be crowned the winner.
