Okay, so I was thrilled to see that Christopher Nolan’s Tenet finally hit Netflix on November 1st! It’s always been one of those movies that people either love or find totally baffling – it’s definitely one of his most intricate and debated films, you know?
The film Tenet features a talented cast including John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh. It centers on a former CIA agent who joins a covert group to explore strange objects that are traveling backwards in time, and how they relate to a potential future attack.
It’s happening. Tenet is now on Netflix.

Nolan worked on the idea for over ten years and spent more than five years writing the script. They started filming in late 2018, with actors joining the project in early 2019. The main filming took six months and happened in several different countries.
The release of the film was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it finally premiered in the UK on August 26, 2020, and in the US on September 3, 2020. This movie, Tenet, was also the last one Christopher Nolan released with Warner Bros. Pictures.
This movie was a big deal as the first major blockbuster to be released in theaters after the pandemic began. It made $365 million around the world on a $205 million budget, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2020. While it was a financial success, critics had mixed reactions. Many enjoyed the impressive visuals, exciting action, and complex story, but others found the plot confusing and hard to understand.
Critics were generally positive about Tenet. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 70% approval rating, describing the film as a visually stunning and intricate experience for movie fans. Metacritic gave it a score of 69 out of 100, also indicating favorable reviews. Many reviewers found Tenet to be both exciting and challenging. Variety called it a grand and entertaining spectacle involving time manipulation, and The Times praised it as a delightfully complex masterpiece. Rolling Stone highlighted John David Washington’s performance as a rising star, praising his physicality, while The Toronto Sun compared the movie to solving a Rubik’s Cube – a complex puzzle.
Although some critics thought the film was too complex, most recognized Christopher Nolan’s grand vision. Director Denis Villeneuve praised it as “a masterpiece” and “an incredible cinematic achievement.” However, some viewers felt that despite its stunning visuals and innovative ideas, the movie occasionally lacked emotional resonance.
I’m a huge Nolan fan, and honestly, Tenet is just mind-bending! It’s definitely a movie you need to watch more than once to really get what’s going on with all the time stuff. It didn’t get amazing reviews across the board, but it’s become super popular with people who love Nolan’s work, and everyone agrees it’s one of his biggest, most daring films yet.
