Netflix is preparing to release a movie based on Emily Henry’s popular 2021 romance novel, “People We Meet on Vacation.”
I just finished watching this film directed by Brett Haley, and it was really sweet! The story centers around Poppy, played by Emily Bader, and Alex, played by Tom Blyth, and follows their relationship as it develops. The screenplay was written by Yulin Kuang, and I was totally invested in their journey.
The trailer for ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ is out now! This romantic story, starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, reminds us that the best part of any trip is the person you share it with. It’s based on the popular novel by Emily Henry and premieres January 9th.

The show also stars Lukas Gage, Jameela Jamil, Alan Ruck, Molly Shannon, Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, Miles Heizer, Alice Lee, and Tommy Do. Jameela Jamil plays Swapna Bakshi-Highsmith, bringing extra charm and humor to the cast.
Temple Hill is producing the film, with Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner overseeing production. The movie is a collaboration between Sony Pictures and Netflix, stemming from an existing agreement between the two companies.
The novel People We Meet on Vacation centers around Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen, two best friends who couldn’t be more different – Poppy is lively and loves excitement, while Alex is more introverted and keeps to himself. They share a yearly week-long vacation, but after a trip to Croatia, they experience a two-year falling out and stop talking.
Poppy, who now writes about travel, suddenly realizes she hasn’t felt genuinely happy since her time traveling with Alex. Hoping to recapture that feeling, she contacts him and asks him to join her for a trip to Palm Springs – his brother is getting married, and she’d like them to go together.
Poppy thinks about her friendship with the person she’s traveling with, remembering how it started back in college in Chicago. Their connection deepened over the years through affordable adventures, and the story looks at their history, the things left unsaid, and what’s kept them close even when life took them in different directions.
Netflix will release the movie on January 9, 2026. The romantic comedy promises a sweet and funny story, much like the popular book it’s based on by Emily Henry.
