Fujii expressed his happiness and relief that ‘Last Samurai Standing’ has become popular internationally. He also announced that the show has been officially renewed for a second season, promising a bigger and more intense follow-up.

Last Samurai Standing is inspired by Shogo Imamura’s novel, Ikusagami. The story takes place in Japan in the late 1800s and follows a dangerous competition where hundreds of fighters battle it out. The last one standing, after a grueling journey and overcoming numerous opponents, wins a substantial cash prize. The protagonist enters the contest hoping to provide for his family, who are facing financial hardship.

Junichi Okada, Yumia Fujisaki, and Kaya Kiyohara lead the cast of this series. It premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in September and became available on Netflix worldwide in November, as announced by Netflix Japan. The first season has six episodes.

Okay, so I’ve been keeping an eye on the early buzz, and it’s looking really good. Critics are loving it! Right now, Rotten Tomatoes has a perfect 100% score based on the first reviews, which is a fantastic sign – everyone seems to be on board with this one.

Netflix hasn’t announced when season two will start production or when viewers can expect to see it. However, fans can anticipate a continuation of the story with even more excitement and challenges.
