It’s no surprise, but Netflix has officially greenlit a sequel to the hugely popular animated film, KPop Demon Hunters. According to Deadline, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to direct. The film was a massive success for the streaming platform – in fact, it’s Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time and is a strong contender for the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
Parents likely already know Huntrix and their popular music. According to Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, their show, KPop Demon Hunters, wasn’t just popular – it created a huge, international fanbase. Netflix is excited to continue working with Huntrix and Sony Pictures Animation to expand this world with even more exciting content for fans worldwide.
It will likely take some time before a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is released. Animated films generally take longer to produce than live-action movies, and earlier estimates suggested a release date as late as 2029. However, Netflix and the creators would be wise to speed up production to capitalize on the current popularity of the series.
