Netflix Confirms Its Most Popular Show Won’t Return Until 2027

Netflix has given fans a preview of its 2026 shows, and it includes many highly anticipated titles. However, some popular series aren’t on the list for next year. These shows haven’t been canceled, but their new seasons are delayed and will likely premiere in 2027 or beyond.

Netflix has been working to release new seasons of its shows more quickly by renewing them before the current season ends. This approach has been successful, with dramas like The Diplomat, The Night Agent, Virgin River, Monster, and The Lincoln Lawyer now having more predictable release dates. The same is true for most of Netflix’s comedies.

Creating some TV dramas every year is still challenging. These shows often need elaborate sets, extensive editing, or lengthy shooting times. Because of this, a few popular series won’t be releasing new seasons in 2026.

In 2026, Netflix will release the last seasons of Outer Banks and The Witcher, and new seasons of popular shows like Bridgerton, One Piece, and Beef. Unfortunately, Wednesday and Ginny & Georgia won’t have new seasons next year, and recently launched series such as Ransom Canyon, Untamed, and Forever are also not currently scheduled for release.

Honestly, I wasn’t shocked to hear Wednesday is taking a while to return. It’s a massive show for Netflix, and these big, ambitious productions often need almost two years between seasons to pull everything together. We’re looking at Season 2 arriving in 2026, which is a bit of a wait, but the good news is Netflix has already greenlit Season 3! They’re aiming to start filming that one in early 2026, with a projected release sometime in 2027. So, while it’s a long haul, there’s plenty more Wednesday to come!

Since its release, Ginny & Georgia has consistently followed a two-year schedule between seasons. While Season 3 will arrive in 2025, Season 4 is still being made and likely won’t be available until 2027.

Some new TV shows are taking a bit longer to produce. For example, Ransom Canyon, which started airing earlier this year, is almost done with Season 2 and plans to release it in early 2027. Similarly, Forever, adapted from the Judy Blume book, is finishing up its second season and is also expected around the same time.

The series Untamed, featuring Eric Bana, originally launched as a limited run. Due to its popularity, Netflix decided to extend the show, but this meant starting over creatively. As a result, the second season won’t be available until early 2027.

Delays are impacting TV shows around the world. For example, production on the UK series Supacell was put on hold due to a problem with the cast, which means fans will have to wait longer for new episodes. Meanwhile, the thriller Dept. Q is currently filming its second season and is expected to return sometime in 2027, though it might be earlier than that.

The Canadian drama Bet and the British-Canadian teen show Geek Girl won’t be part of the 2026 schedule. The omission of Geek Girl is surprising, since the second season has already been filmed. If it’s delayed until 2027, fans will have waited almost three years for new episodes.

A pleasant surprise is the upcoming season of Heartbreak High. Although filming wrapped up in early 2025, we still don’t know when it will be released.

The show Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney won’t be released as part of this schedule. While Netflix has ordered two seasons, they haven’t announced when the second season will be available.

Netflix currently has two different patterns for its shows. Some are being renewed quickly for new seasons, meaning they’ll return soon. Others are taking a long time to produce, so fans will need to be patient for those releases.
