Netflix has officially announced an animated Stranger Things series called Tales From ’85, sharing a first trailer on Stranger Things Day. Fans can expect to see it in 2026.
As a huge fan of Stranger Things, I was thrilled to hear about Tales From ’85. It’s a story that takes place right after Season 2, in the winter of 1985. Basically, it brings us back to Hawkins with the whole gang as they stumble into a brand new, creepy paranormal mystery and, of course, some seriously scary monsters!
What the Trailer Teases
According to showrunner Eric Robles and the series creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, using animation allows them to be incredibly creative. The newly released footage delivers on that promise, featuring a colder, more intense atmosphere in Hawkins, quicker action with the creatures, and a tone that blends classic 80s adventure with a darker, more science fiction-driven feel. You can watch the trailer below.
Story and Setting
It’s a bitterly cold winter in Hawkins, and our favorite characters are facing new dangers while trying to solve a puzzling mystery that affects the whole town. Get ready to see familiar faces, a fresh take on the Upside Down, and shocking discoveries that will make you question everything you thought you knew.

Who stars?
The show stars Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, and Ben Plessala as Will. Brett Gipson plays Hopper, and Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips are also joining the cast in this new story set in Hawkins.
Who’s Making It
Robles is the showrunner for Flying Bark Productions. The Duffer Brothers and Hilary Leavitt are executive producers through Upside Down Pictures, joined by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen from 21 Laps.
