Netflix is building on the success of its action film Extraction with a new movie, TYGO, set in South Korea. The film will feature Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa in leading roles.
Tygo, once a child soldier now working as a mercenary, embarks on a quest for revenge against the criminal organizations of Korea after a job turns disastrous.
This project has been years in the making and is a collaboration between Big Punch Pictures and AGBO, with additional support from Nova Film and B&C Content.
Angela Russo-Otstot, from AGBO, expressed excitement about bringing the world of Extraction to South Korea. They’re collaborating with renowned actor Don Lee and director Lee Sang-yong, praising Lee Sang-yong’s impressive action choreography as a hallmark of Korean filmmaking.
I’m so excited about TYGO! Don Lee explained that it really brings a unique Korean flavor to the Extraction world, and honestly, we’re all eager to share its incredible action and energy with everyone globally.
Lee Jin-uk, who starred in popular shows like Squid Game and Sweet Home, expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Extraction series, saying it was a “great honor” as a long-time fan.
Lisa, recently known for her role in Season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus, expressed her excitement about joining the project, saying she felt honored and grateful to work with such a talented cast. She shared that appearing in an action movie has always been a dream, and this first film role is particularly special because it’s in such an exciting genre.
The Extraction movies are inspired by the graphic novel Ciudad created by Ande Parks and the Russo brothers, and they center on thrilling, dangerous rescue operations across the globe. Recently, Netflix announced a new Extraction series featuring Omar Sy, Boyd Holbrook, and Natalie Dormer. This series will follow a mercenary as he works through conflict and avoids deadly enemies to rescue hostages in Libya.
TYGO is the ninth movie resulting from the collaboration between Netflix and AGBO, a partnership that began with the first Extraction in 2020 and continued with Extraction 2 in 2023. Their other films together include The Gray Man and The Electric State.
