Nerdist’s Best TV and Movie Moments of 2024

I must say, the year 2024 has been a veritable treasure trove of extraordinary moments in television. However, among all the brilliant scenes that have graced our screens, there are a few that truly stood out for me – moments that resonated deeply with my own life experiences and left an indelible mark on my heart.

This year’s selection of TV shows and movies provided us with endless entertainment, leaving us emotionally moved on numerous occasions. Some series made us shed tears as we bid farewell to cherished characters, while others brought smiles to our faces or had us laughing out loud at our favorite personalities. Among the countless unforgettable moments from television and cinema that linger in our minds, these standouts are undoubtedly the best of the best, according to us.

Here are TopMob‘s Best TV and movie moments of 2024:

The Rings of Power – Adar Gives Galadriel Her Ring and Returns to Uruk Form

It’s no surprise that I hold a deep affection for Adar from “The Rings of Power,” considering him a true hero of the series. However, his character truly shone when he voluntarily surrendered one of the Rings of Power to Galadriel in the final episode of season two. This pivotal moment in the show is significant for multiple reasons.

Witnessing Adar’s genuine strength and kind heart being showcased so profoundly was incredibly significant for the series and his character development. Ultimately, Adar encountering a more “healed” version of himself, yet choosing to stay true to the self he had earned—with all its scars, stigma, and imperfections—was truly moving. This scene seemed to suggest that Adar didn’t require healing from his truth; instead, he was already whole and healed exactly as he was. Galadriel’s awestruck response mirrored the feelings we all had while watching what might be one of the most impactful TV moments in 2024 unfold. -Ro Rusak’s Selection

The Boys – Hughie Bids His Father a Heartbreaking Farewell

Just like its past seasons, The Boys’ fourth season didn’t shy away from its share of peculiar, grotesque, and unsettling scenes. Although these moments often align with the show’s style, adding an element of shock value, there are instances when this series can leave you emotionally drained. One such instance that struck a chord with me, being someone who lost my mother in 2023, was the events leading up to Hughie’s father’s demise.

The Substance – The Final Act (That We Won’t Spoil)

The Substance” Directed by Coralie Fargeat transcends the horror genre, offering a unique blend of satire, intense body horror, and a profound commentary on societal perceptions of aging women. Despite its numerous strengths, it’s the climactic scene that truly sets it apart. To avoid spoilers, let me say that you can expect a large crowd, a gory spectacle, and an event that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression in horror movie history. This finale, reminiscent of Brian De Palma’s iconic ending in “Carrie“, features an outstanding performance by Demi Moore, a performance worthy of every award she’s been nominated for. Now, the end of “The Substance” has become indelibly etched in our memories. -Selected by Eric Diaz

Doctor Who – Fifteen Body Rolls to Kylie Minogue in “Rogue”

The first season featuring Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who character, the Fifteenth Doctor, was filled with fantastic scenes. Given his captivating performance as the courageous and humorous time traveler, it wasn’t easy to pick just one standout moment. However, there’s a particular scene from “Rogue” that I’ve re-watched excessively. In this episode, the Fifteenth Doctor crosses paths with Rogue, a bounty hunter, and ends up in trouble as they enter his spaceship. With Rogue planning to eject him into an incinerator, the Fifteenth Doctor decides to lighten the mood by mocking his somber counterpart in his shabby spacecraft.

With his sonic screwdriver, he unveils the tune playing aboard Rogue’s ship, which turns out to be Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.” Fifteen gracefully performs a body roll as a hint of embarrassment crosses Rogue’s face. Their playful banter of switching the song on and off creates an engaging spectacle. This scene beautifully encapsulates the Doctor’s humor, wit, and intelligence in one perfect moment. -Suggested by Tai Gooden

Agatha All Along – Lilia’s Great Sacrifice

Executing time jumps effectively in fiction can be quite tricky due to its complex nature and potential logical or narrative traps. Predictions, particularly in contemporary pop culture, are equally challenging, as fan interpretations sometimes outshine the actual content presented. Cliffhangers involving tantalizing visions and cryptic dialogue can fall flat when the payoff is unsatisfying. However, the episode “Death’s Hand in Mine” from Agatha All Along, the seventh installment of 2024, masterfully handled both storytelling devices, delivering one of the most impactful scenes this year – the self-sacrifice of Patti LuPone’s character, Lilia, for her coven. This scene was undeniably one of the best moments in 2024 television.

The Sicilian Seer, who spent her entire existence concealing herself from others due to her inability to safeguard them, found no remedy in her clairvoyance to shield the ones she loved. Consequently, she elected to disengage emotionally from everyone as the sole means of halting the spells that caused her reality to be jumbled and disorganized.

Prior to “Death’s Hand in Mine,” it wasn’t clear what had transpired with Lilia, but the narrative beautifully tied up loose ends within her personal tale. This was particularly poignant as a renowned acting talent facilitated Lilia’s empowering act of reclaiming her life in a truly heroic fashion. Her passion for being a witch resonated deeply with us, and it was heartening to see that, in her last moments, she achieved all her long-held desires. – Paraphrased by AI Assistant

Interview with the Vampire – Daniel Exposes Armand’s Messiness and Lies

Interview with the Vampire season two truly delivered this year and it had MANY best moments. For me, Daniel Molloy, as played by Eric Bogosion and Luke Brandon Field, and Armand, as played by Assad Zaman, featured in a great many of those. It was a tough toss up for me between the scene where Armand tortures Daniel in the past and this one, but in the end, I had to give it Daniel Molloy’s ultimate powerplay. With help from the mysterious Talamasca, Daniel Molloy lets his interview with the vampire crest to a peaceable end… before really going in for the kill. Poor Armand, he thought he’d made it to the end of this trial with all his ducks and lies in a row. But it was not to be.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but express my awe at the climactic unraveling of secrets in this ultimate series. Bogosian, Zaman, and Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac deliver exceptional performances that leave me breathless. The Dubai house of lies finally collapses in an exhilarating finale, and it’s a moment I won’t forget!
