Comedian Nate Bargatze playfully hints in a fresh promo for the second installment of Saturday Night Live’s Season 50 that Kenan Thompson has been with the show for five decades. In the coming episode, which Bargatze will host, Coldplay is set to appear as the musical act.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but gush over how the latest promo cleverly addressed Thompson’s storied career and the monumental achievement of SNL reaching its 50th season. Just as I was introduced to the brilliant minds behind “Fix You,” Bargatze expressed his delight at being a part of this iconic show, one that’s celebrating five decades of brilliance. This sparked a question in Bargatze’s mind: Has Thompson been an integral part of Saturday Night Live for these past 50 years?
Thompson, appearing puzzled, attempted to correct the host’s math errors, but the host interrupted with a joke, “Well, I guess you must have been around 10 when you began, man! You look fantastic for your age.” In a playful manner, Bargatze implied that Kenan is 60 years old, despite him actually being 46.
Despite the fact that Thompson didn’t perform on SNL for fifty years, he remains the longest-serving cast member since he joined the show in 2003.
As I reminisce in the next part of our promotional spot, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable years I’ve spent with Saturday Night Live. It’s truly awe-inspiring to witness the show’s incredible ability to bring together people from diverse backgrounds and nations.
Bargatze quickly joined the conversation, stating he hails from the United States, while Chris Martin made it clear that Coldplay is a band originating from the U.K. Thompson then added his thoughts, mentioning that Saturday Night Live has been a significant part of his life and expressing that he grew up right there in the studio, implying the studio’s location.
Coldplay is set to make their eighth appearance on the show, serving as its musical guests, to promote their latest album, “Moon Music,” which became available in stores this past Friday. In addition, Nate Bargatze will be hosting SNL for the second time; his previous stint was last year with Foo Fighters as the musical guest. The 50th season of Saturday Night Live kicked off last Saturday, with Jean Smart as the host and Jelly Roll as the musical guest.
