Natalie Dormer Reveals How She Got To Know About Captain America’s Kissing Scene With Chris Evans

As a dedicated follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I have witnessed the evolution of characters over the years, and none more so than Steve Rogers aka Captain America. Reflecting on his journey brings back fond memories, especially when I recall Natalie Dormer‘s brief but impactful role in Captain America: The First Avenger. Her character may not have been as celebrated as Peggy Carter or Black Widow, but her kiss with Steve Rogers remains etched in MCU history.

Peggy Carter wasn’t Steve Roger’s (Chris Evans as Captain America) inaugural kiss; instead, that honor went to Natalie Dormer’s character in Captain America: The First Avenger. You might be curious about who Peggy Carter is then. In the 2011 Joe Johnston-directed movie, Steve Rogers/Captain America shared a kiss with her, but it was actually his first kiss as the iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe hero. This kiss took place before he passed his shield to Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, declaring him the new Captain America.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but revisit the timeless debate surrounding Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, even though his MCU journey concluded with his retirement in the emotionally resonant and critically adored 2019 blockbuster by the Russo Brothers. Recently, while chatting with Comicbook.com, Emily VanCamp (Dormer) stirred up nostalgia, reminding me of the first Captain America movie moments when her character was subtly hinted as a homewrecker after the host mentioned that kiss scene.

“Dormer expressed that she believes the character found her balance and turned into a dependable, diligent member of society. She laughed as she said this and went on to mention how enjoyable that particular role was. ‘That role was simply fantastic,’ she reminisced about the Marvel Cinematic Universe film. ‘It’s those kinds of jobs where you think, “You want me to do what? Absolutely! I’m game.” It was just a day’s work, and yes, it was fun,'” the actress concluded.

Captain America, a beloved character, has had his share of kisses with various women in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One memorable instance is when he shared a quick kiss with Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. This wasn’t a romantic gesture, but rather a strategic move to divert their attention while they were trying to avoid S.T.R.I.K.E.

In Captain America: Civil War, Steve shared a kiss with Emily VanCamp, who portrayed Sharon Carter, Peggy’s niece, and a former undercover agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. It would be misleading to bring up the kiss between Steve and Peggy from The First Avenger before Captain America fought Red Skull, as the hero was yet to embark on that mission at that point in the storyline.

More recently, Natalie Dormer has been seen in Guillem Morales’ critically praised psychological and suspenseful thriller The Wasp, alongside Naomie Harris who played 007 in Skyfall. This film is adapted from Morgan Lloyd Malcom’s play of the same title, where it tells the story of two women who have been estranged for a long time, but when an event occurs that causes Harris’ character to speak, it will significantly affect both of them. Interestingly, Malcom was also responsible for writing the screenplay for this movie.

During the movie promotion, a 42-year-old actress talked to Black Girl Nerds alongside her co-star Harris. They mentioned that their characters share a similarity as they both experienced significant traumas in their youth. As Dormer put it, “They’ve both been through traumatic experiences that were unfairly inflicted on them at an early age.”

In simpler terms, the actor added that “young ones should be spared harm,” and it’s truly unfortunate when they experience pain and anguish at their tender age. Unfortunately, their personalities have been affected by such cruelty and deceit.

The friendship of the central characters in the movie holds the same significance as any romantic connection. However, they are “heartbroken by each other. Their hearts have been broken at different points and um they’re both reeling from that.”

The Wasp is set to hit the theaters on August 30.
