Naomie Harris Recalls WHY It Was ‘Scary’ to Film Love Scene With Bridgerton Star Regé-Jean Page: ‘He’s really sensitive…’

Naomie Harris and Regé-Jean Page developed a quick camaraderie during the filming of Black Box, Steven Soderbergh’s forthcoming espionage thriller.

In simpler terms, Harris shared that her initial scene alongside Regé-Jean was a romantic scene. She explained this to PEOPLE by saying, “My first scene with Regé was actually a love scene, so it was basically like, ‘Hi, nice to meet you. We’re going to act out a love scene together.’

Even though initiating with an intimate scene could have been uncomfortable for many actors, Naomie Harris felt at ease due to her co-star’s generous performance style. “Working with anyone else might have been awkward,” she shared, “but he is incredibly giving as a performer. He has a great sense of humor and is actually quite sensitive and thoughtful. Overall, he’s just a kind person, so it was not difficult at all.

Regé-Jean Page went out of his way to make Harris feel at ease during filming. Later on, Harris shared that he had phoned her and offered an intimacy coordinator if she ever felt uneasy. But she politely declined, asserting that she didn’t require one and was completely comfortable working with him.

Harris confessed that initiating intimate scenes with someone right away could be quite intimidating. “It’s usually a bit nerve-wracking, similar to meeting someone for the first time and then pretending it’s a romantic encounter,” she expressed.

Initially, the scenario contained an intimate scene, but later on, Soderbergh opted for a revision. Harris disclosed that he informed her they’d just engage in dialogue while dressed, which took her by surprise initially but ultimately brought relief.

In the film “Black Bag,” Harris and Page portray a duo who are both secret agents at a British intelligence agency and romantic partners. Their characters find themselves entangled in a perilous operation, joining forces with Michael Fassbender to determine if his spouse (played by Cate Blanchett) is betraying the agency. Additionally, Pierce Brosnan, Marisa Abela, and Tom Burke are part of this thrilling cast.

Harris found the script’s twists captivating and admitted that it took her off guard. She praised its structure as a multi-character story in which each character had a well-defined, intriguing backstory. (Alternatively, Harris was drawn to the unexpected turns of the script, confessing that it caught her unawares. She applauded its format as a richly textured narrative featuring multiple characters, each with their own hidden motivations.)

Additionally, she enjoyed the quick tempo and captivating plot of the movie, mentioning that she didn’t realize until the final moments who were on opposing sides, a detail that increased her curiosity.

Harris pointed out that it’s rare for mature, narrative films lasting only 90 minutes to effectively convey a compelling story, expressing her satisfaction with shorter runtimes to avoid prolonged viewing.
