‘My Own Obituaries!’: Sir Ian McKellen Reflects On The Time He Fell From Stage During His Recovery

As an ardent admirer of Sir Ian McKellen, it is both heartening and disheartening to witness his journey through adversity. On one hand, it’s inspiring to see a legend like him bounce back with such resilience after falling from a London stage. Yet, on the other, it’s disconcerting to hear about his emotional turmoil and feelings of guilt following the incident.

During June, Sir Ian McKellen had a frightening incident when he took a tumble from a London stage, causing great concern for both him and his admirers. But now, I’m thrilled to say that the esteemed actor is swiftly getting back on his feet, taking this time to reflect upon the event and share his feelings about it.

In simpler terms, the renowned actor from The Lord of the Rings admitted to feeling embarrassed and remorseful when he accidentally tumbled offstage during a fight sequence, as he believed he had disappointed the spectators who were watching the performance, an emotion he has yet to shake off.

In an interview with Sky News, the actor known for his captivating role as Magneto in the Fox’s X-Men franchise mentioned that he feels prepared to take on new roles since he’s in good physical shape. However, he also shared that he is grappling emotionally with certain events during the same conversation.

In further discussion, Sir Ian McKellen revealed that he plans to reduce his hiatus from six months to just three months. Emphasizing his advanced age, he expressed a desire to spend less time away from the stage as he feels his remaining time on it is limited.

In reference to the tragic accident he experienced, the Good Liar’s actor remarked, “The media frenzy was so intense, it felt like I had passed away and was reading my own death notices!”

During the interview, although his enthusiastic stage performers might miss him dearly for several months, Sir Ian McKellen was eager to share about his upcoming on-screen role in the film “The Critic.”

In his forthcoming production, Ian McKellen, famously known for portraying Mr. Holmes, assumes the role of a formidable London theatre critic. The plot unfolds in the 1930s and features Gemma Anderson as a struggling actress, who is enticed by McKellen’s character into a web of blackmail.

Sir Ian McKellen suffered an accident during the performance of The Player Kings play. After falling off the stage, he was transported to the hospital, prompting the evacuation of the West End theater.

After the unexpected occurrence, the night’s performance was unfortunately postponed as well. This event happened while Henry Percy was engaged in a fight sequence, which took place on June 17, 2024, causing him to fall from the stage. The incident involving this renowned actor made headlines.

The Critic will hit theaters on September 13, 2024.
