My Lady Jane’s Season 2 Canceled by Prime Video Despite 94% Score Among Audience; Check Details

As a die-hard fan who’s been through the rollercoaster ride of shows that were loved but never got their due sequels, I must say, I’m utterly crestfallen by the news about My Lady Jane. It was a breath of fresh air amidst the monotonous medieval sagas, and it had all the makings of a classic. The chemistry between Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel was as captivating as the political intrigue that unfolded in every episode.

Unfortunately, the popular historical drama series “My Lady Jane,” featuring Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel, will not be returning for a second season on Prime Video, despite garnering an impressive 94% audience approval rating in its first season.

1. The TV series draws inspiration from a novel penned by Jodie Meadows, Brodi Ashton, and Cynthia Hand with the same title. While the plot of “My Lady Jane” is creatively reimagined, it loosely follows the historical account of Queen Jane Grey of Britain, also known as the Nine Days Queen. The show’s debut in June 2024 was a hit among younger viewers.

On more than one occasion, a show that gained significant popularity among viewers has been prematurely canceled before the characters’ stories reached a satisfactory conclusion. As reported by Deadline, fans are disheartened over the cancellation, as producers hinted that the British drama could have established itself as a strong competitor to Netflix’s series, Bridgerton.

Initially, several episodes focused on the main characters, as they navigated their romantic turmoil alongside defending their kingdom. A surprising turn of events saw Lady Jane ascending the throne suddenly. Meanwhile, Bader’s character grappled with this new information and soon found out about potential threats lurking who aimed to assassinate him and his wife in a power grab.

Towards the close of the TV series, the host made a clever remark: “Our tale is far from finished.” For the upcoming second season, the plot was planned to continue right where it ended. The storyline would delve into Lady Grey’s challenges during Queen Mary’s reign.

In this narrative, Lady Jane Grey and her spouse, Guildford, lived during the time when King Edward, Henry VIII’s son, reigned. Unanticipated events lead to her becoming queen in a single night, making her both queen and an attractive target for criminals who covet her throne and her life.

The show features a talented ensemble including Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Anna Chancellor, Rob Brydon, Jordan Peters, Kate O’Flynn, Abbie Hern, Henry Ashton, Dominic Cooper, and Jim Broadbent.

Season 1 of My Lady Jane is available to stream on Prime Video.
