The anime “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes” is a precursor story, derived from the manga penned by Hideyuki Furuhashi and graphically illustrated by Betten Court. This series is being brought to life by Studio Bones. Unlike the events in My Hero Academia, it takes place several years earlier, set in a world where approximately 80% of its inhabitants have superhuman abilities known as Quirks.

In this narrative, we delve into the lives of unofficial protectors – everyday people driven by a strong urge to aid others without official approval. Unlike the licensed heroes safeguarding society, these vigilantes are not recognized legally. The story unfolds as a deeply personal journey of growth, emphasizing individuals who act out of responsibility rather than seeking recognition. The anime delves into their challenges and resilience in a turbulent, unstable world.

 

As a dedicated follower, I’m excited to share that the first episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is titled ‘I’m Here.’ According to the official anime website, this episode will introduce Koichi Haimawari, an ordinary college student living in a world brimming with quirks. Despite not being able to join the ranks of professional heroes, he chooses to assist those in need under his self-given alias, ‘Nice Guy.’

Even though he had to let go of his original aspiration, Koichi’s passion for aid never waned. In an instant, when confronted by assailants and finding himself alone without a hero or law enforcement nearby, a stranger emerged—unconnected to any recognized authority. This unforeseen meeting would set the stage for Koichi’s metamorphosis into one of the title-bearing vigilantes.

Vigilantes will air on Monday, April 7th, 2025, at 11 pm Japanese Standard Time (JST). This means it’s a same-day release for many international fans, approximately 11 am Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), 4 am Pacific Time (PT), or 10 am Eastern Time (ET). Initially, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 1 will debut in Japan on both Tokyo MX and BS NTV, with additional screenings to follow on Yomiuri TV.
