‘My Film Never Even Got A Look’: Why Does Brian Cox Feel That Oscars Are ‘Absolute Nonsense’?

As a seasoned lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Brian Cox‘s candid opinions about the Oscars are both intriguing and somewhat valid. Having followed his illustrious career, it’s clear that he has a wealth of knowledge about the film industry and its inner workings.

Brian Cox expressed some unique views regarding the Academy Awards during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. During the discussion, he candidly discussed his professional journey, including its peaks and valleys, and hinted at having a disagreement with one of the most prominent award events in the industry.

During the interview, he expressed his viewpoint that the Academy Awards were “completely baseless.” When asked about his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the 2017 film Churchill, the actor voiced concerns regarding the biases prevalent at award ceremonies. The Succession lead argued that the selection committee primarily focuses on movies released during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The actor expressed his view on the Oscars by stating, “I think the Oscars are completely irrelevant as they only evaluate a portion of an actor’s work during a specific time period from Thanksgiving to Christmas, not their entire year’s performance.

He also mentioned, “In my opinion, those prizes seem questionable indeed, as there are many excellent works happening beyond the timeframe they label as ‘Oscar season’.

In the movie business, the leading actor aimed at the distributors known for scheduling their film releases over holidays, since it’s when awards committees select the films to be considered for the competition.

Contrasting with what the actor claimed, it was actually Oppenheimer and Everything, Everywhere All At Once that garnered the most awards during their respective release years. Interestingly, these two productions premiered in July and April.

During his interviews with the media platform, Troy’s leading actor disclosed that their movie was released during the summer and it was more of an independent production without the backing of major studios. He added, “As a result, it didn’t receive much attention, yet I believe my acting in it surpassed expectations.

Throughout his career, Cox hasn’t had the fortune of being nominated for an Oscar, despite having already garnered an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe.

In terms of professional endeavors, this actor has contributed his vocal talents to the latest movie, “Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim,” which has been doing well and is currently showing in cinemas.

Regarding the upcoming Academy Awards nominations, they’re set to announce the list on January 17, 2025.
