On Amazon Prime Video, the Spanish translations of Mercedes Ron’s Culpables series have proven to be a significant hit, as “Culpa Tuya” has emerged as their most popular international original title.
Initially, the directing team of Dani Girdwood and Charlotte Fassler, who are new to the role, have undertaken the task of adapting the franchise into English-speaking versions with their film titled “My Fault: London“. This movie, inspired by Culpa Mía, will debut on Amazon Prime Video on February 14, making it perfect for Valentine’s Day viewing.
In this revision, the narrative shifts the setting from Spain to England, with the main character, Asha Banks, transitioning to London after her mother gets married to a prosperous entrepreneur, where she continues her journey.
Quickly, she encounters her defiant step-brother, Nick (portrayed by Matthew Broome), which sets the stage for a tangled tale of romance marked by high-speed vehicles, exhilarating social gatherings, and passionate feelings.
Girdwood and Fassler, often referred to as ‘Similar But Different,’ possess a history in creating commercials and music videos for big names such as Katy Perry and Liam Payne. Their first foray into feature films is My Fault: London, an exciting venture they shared intimately with the principal actors.
Fassler noted that it was special being a pair, as we mainly collaborated with another two individuals who formed their own dynamic duo. Interestingly, this was our debut feature for each of us, and we shared the same aspirations for the project.
In my line of work as a lifestyle connoisseur, I must say that Matt, in his portrayal of Nick, is every director’s dream. His insatiable curiosity makes him an absolute joy to work with, as so much of our profession revolves around asking questions.
As for Banks, her technical skills are nothing short of remarkable. Her deep understanding and appreciation for the technical aspects of our craft lead me to believe that she has the potential to become a truly outstanding director in the future.
In the series “My Fault: London“, music significantly contributes to its atmosphere, as evidenced by the introduction featuring Lily Allen’s song “LDN”. From the beginning, selecting the right tunes for the soundtrack was an essential part of the production process, according to Fassler.
She stated that right after reading the script, they put together a comprehensive playlist first, followed by individual playlists for each character. It was a fantastic chance to create a soundtrack fitting for that era, she added. The mix encompasses artists such as Britney Spears, Lily Allen, Charli XCX, along with up-and-coming British talents like Gretel and Holly Humberstone.
After the achievement of Culpa Mía and Culpa Tuya, I’m thrilled that Amazon Prime Video has wrapped up a third Spanish-language film titled Culpa Nuestra, slated for release later this year. Regarding an English sequel, the directors continue to harbor optimism.
