Muppet*Vision 3D to Close as MONSTERS, INC. Land Replaces Muppet Courtyard, THE MUPPETS Will Take Over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney World

As a lifelong fan who has grown up with the Muppets and their whimsical world, this news leaves me feeling a bit like Kermit himself – a mix of sadness and determination. The closure of Muppet*Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios is undeniably disheartening, as it marks the end of an era for the iconic attraction that has been a staple in the park since its inception.

Let’s find Statler and Waldorf for a quick chat, as we need some seasoned comedians due to the news that Walt Disney World may be removing Muppet*Vision 3D from Hollywood Studios. Contrary to the dissent of many, including us, Disney has confirmed this move. The announcement was made about the massive Monsters, Inc. area set to take over the park, effectively replacing the Muppets Courtyard. This means the cherished Muppet*Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios will shut down.

However, it’s important to note that the news isn’t completely unfavorable for Jim Henson’s renowned troupe. The Muppets won’t be departing from Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios entirely; instead, they are set to replace Aerosmith in Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Disney announced a major Monsters, Inc. expansion for Hollywood Studios at this year’s D23. From the moment the company revealed its plan, we knew what the cost might be. A prime suspect for the area’s unannounced location was Muppets Courtyard. That’s home to the long-running attraction Muppet*Vision 3D, one of the oldest in the park and the last Muppets project Jim Henson ever worked on. Now, sadly, it’s official. Disney has said Mike, Sully, and friends will replace Muppets Courtyard on the south side of the park, and Muppet*Vision 3D will close.

Although we’re regretful about the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney is actively searching for ways to keep it vibrant and accessible in various forms. They mentioned, “As we advance with these transformations, creative discussions are taking place and options to maintain the film and other aspects of the experience for fans to savor in the future are being considered.” Furthermore, Disney plans to replace the current Muppets Theater housing Muppet*Vision 3D with a completely new Monsters, Inc. show. The building’s renovation can be observed in fresh concept art for the upcoming area.

Regardless of the future of Muppet*Vision 3D/PizzeRizzo, The Muppets will still have a presence in the park as they’re shifting to the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster area – a location that suits them perfectly.

The revamped attraction will mark The Muppets’ inaugural roller coaster experience, fulfilling a long-standing commitment made by Disney. This is what Disney shared regarding the renovated Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster: [Disney statement about the updated Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster]

Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and their companions are vacating their current location to settle on Sunset Boulevard. However, there’s more: The Muppets will be seizing control of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, collaborating with some prominent musicians for a thrilling music carnival!

We’re confident that many of you, like us, adore The Muppets. Their vibrant personalities make them an ideal match for this roller coaster. Not only will it be the first Disney ride to feature The Muppets, but it promises a mix of laughter, shrieks, and fresh melodies for riders to savor during their journey. Additionally, there will be a wide variety of Muppets-themed merchandise available on Sunset Boulevard for fans to purchase!

With apologies to Aerosmith, that’s going to be a huge upgrade.

Prior to any transitions taking place, Disney assures us there’s ample opportunity for visitors to savor both the Muppet*Vision 3D and Aerosmith’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. This gives us enough leeway to persuade Statler and Waldorf to tease Disney on not incorporating a Monsters, Inc. land into Animation Courtyard. Remarkably, this area requires renovation, and if it were done, we could have preserved the Muppet*Vision 3D experience while introducing a Muppets-themed roller coaster as well.
