MTV VMAs 2024: Taylor Swift Wins Big; Bags Artist Of The Year And Best Pop

As a die-hard Swiftie who has witnessed countless of Taylor’s triumphs, I must say that her 2024 VMAs performance was nothing short of phenomenal! With an impressive haul of awards, including Artist of the Year and Best Pop, she solidified her place in history as the most-awarded artist at the VMAs. It was a night filled with excitement, camaraderie, and standing ovations for Taylor and fellow artists alike.

On the evening of September 11, 2024, Taylor made a triumphant mark at the VMAs. She began by claiming the Best Collaboration Award in collaboration with Post Malone for their Fortnite track. To make her victory even sweeter, she was also awarded Song of the Summer for the same song. However, those who thought that was all Taylor had to offer that night were sorely mistaken. In addition to these accolades, Taylor also took home Artist of the Year and Best Pop awards before concluding her successful night.

In the first category, Taylor Swift went head-to-head with artists like Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, and SZA. In the second category, she outshone Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, and Tate McRae. At this year’s VMAs on Wednesday night, Taylor Swift broke records by becoming the most-honored artist in the award show’s history, boasting a total of 29 awards to date.

In the realm of my admiration for Swift’s remarkable accomplishment, it became somewhat overshadowed when MTV opted to reduce the number of award presentations in favor of extended performances. This decision, however, did not resonate positively with viewers, as they voiced their displeasure on the channel’s X page.

One user, apparently a fan of Taylor Swift, expressed their disbelief by saying, ‘It’s astonishing that they didn’t give out the main award of the night to the world’s most renowned artist, who just broke the VMA record for most awards. This is particularly surprising as it was an AWARDS show!’ Another user added, ‘Why are all the awards being announced off-screen? I tuned in to see the awards, not just the performances. The shows are fantastic, but where are the actual awards? It’s called an AWARDS show, after all!’

Similar sentiments were echoed by many others.

Despite the controversy surrounding it, Taylor made her mark at the highly desired award ceremony by socializing with friends, appreciating shows by her peers, and inciting standing ovations for fellow recipients.

In the midst of all the excitement, Taylor didn’t overlook the importance of the day coinciding with the awards show and expressed a touching tribute to the 9/11 victims as she received her inaugural Moonman award for the evening.
