As a seasoned connoisseur of music events, having attended countless award shows over the years, I must say that the MTV VMAs 2024 lineup is nothing short of spectacular! From returning favorites like Shawn Mendes and LL Cool J to up-and-coming stars such as Anitta and GloRilla, this year’s event promises a diverse and electrifying mix of talent.
2024’s MTV VMAs curtains are about to open, with performances by a lineup of famous artists. Before the show goes live from New York City, the organizers have unveiled a stellar cast for this year’s performance, including Shawn Mendes, Anitta, and Karol G. Other talented musicians will also be taking the stage. The UBS Arena in New York City will host the event, with the broadcast set to air on September 11.
Mendes is set to make a comeback at the MTV Awards following a three-year absence; the last time he performed was in 2021. On stage, the Senorita singer plans to showcase his fifth studio album, Shawn, which will have its TV premiere simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Anitta, who will also be returning to the event, will sing a combination of her songs, Savage Funk and Algeria. DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, and Tiago PZK will join the artist as the four of them perform their collaboration, Paradise.
In addition to making people tap their feet, Anitta has also earned nominations in three different award categories.
This upcoming performance, Karol G is set to captivate the audience as she sings tracks off her album, “Mañana Será Bonito”. Last year, she was awarded a Moon Person, and she’s aiming for another win this time around.
LL Cool J will make his comeback to the MTV VMA stage for a performance, following the release of his latest tracks. He honored hip-hop’s 50th anniversary by paying homage to the genre. Known as an experienced artist, he has been associated with the event for more than ten years. Cool J received his first Moon Person award in 1991, and eight years after that, he took home the Video Vanguard award in 1997.
In addition to those already mentioned, we can anticipate performances from artists such as Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa (from K-pop group BLACKPINK), and Benson Boone.
Among the nominees, a number of budding artists from the industry have managed to secure a spot on the list, with no less than 29 of them being first-timers.
In this contest, Taylor Swift is currently in the front with ten nominations, followed closely by Post Malone with nine. Additionally, Ariana Grande, Eminem, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, and Olivia Rodrigo are also notable contenders for the awards.
