Move Over Knull and Kingpin: Ned Leeds Could Steal the Spotlight as a Fan-Favorite Villain in ‘Spider-Man 4’

As a seasoned gamer and avid Marvel fan, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as ‘Spider-Man 4’ inches closer to reality. The prospect of seeing Kingpin or Knull on the big screen is tantalizing, but the intriguing possibility that Ned Leeds might don the Hobgoblin mantle has me hooked.

It’s been more than a year since it was announced that ‘Spider-Man 4’ was being developed, and although specific details are hard to come by, we do know Destin Daniel Cretton will be at the helm. As per Tom Holland’s recent statements, the script is still in the works, but that hasn’t stopped the wave of speculation in the last few weeks!

Initially, there were whispers about ‘Spider-Man 4’ centering around a gritty, city-based narrative with Kingpin as the primary antagonist – a tale that fans have long anticipated.

Instead, the speculations underwent a significant shift, as fresh rumors emerged suggesting that the movie could explore a Multiverse storyline, positioning Knull as the villain. This change was fueled by the debut of the ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ teaser.

In a pool of suspected antagonists, there’s a popular idea that Marvel Cinematic Universe’s character Ned Leeds could assume the role of the Hobgoblin. The MCU frequently reworks its comic book characters, and in the source material, Ned was falsely accused and mind-controlled into adopting the Hobgoblin persona, although he wasn’t the initial villain.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe might delve into this aspect by subtly altering Ned, possibly through sorcery, technology, or psychic influence, while keeping his essential character traits intact. This method would result in Ned developing into a complex figure, simultaneously portraying him as a pitiable character and a significant adversary for Spider-Man. Given his recent brush with magic, this metamorphosis could also provide an appropriate starting point for further adventures.

Essentially, the idea that Leeds could turn into the Hobgoblin isn’t only a guess; according to Jacob Batalon, this notion was indeed brought up for discussion.

To be honest, while we might have discussed various topics, I’m uncertain if our conversations would have escalated into something significant concerning becoming a villain or anything similar in nature.

Jacob similarly emphasized that he doesn’t possess any details regarding his potential involvement in the forthcoming film.

I’m receptive to anything and so is everyone else, unless you’re a superhero on the level of those who star in blockbuster movies. In our line of work, it’s not about hoping or wishing; it’s about being ready to come back.
