Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Brings the Klassics Back to PS5, PS4

The “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection” has indeed been officially revealed, and it seems to be exactly what die-hard fans have long anticipated.

As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share that during Sony’s recent State of Play event, the exciting news was unveiled! The collection, developed by Digital Eclipse, promises a gory gathering of classic Mortal Kombat games. This adrenaline-pumping package is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in 2025!

Check out the details and watch the official trailer below.

The Kollection: What’s Included

Digital Eclipse is renowned for giving old games a fresh coat of paint and treating them with care, and the Legacy Kollection continues this trend. This collection includes the original arcade and home versions of some of the top Mortal Kombat games from the ’90s and early 2000s, fully equipped with online multiplayer using rollback netcode for smooth gameplay.

Confirmed titles so far:

  • Mortal Kombat (1992) – Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
  • Mortal Kombat II (1993) – Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
  • Mortal Kombat 3 (1995) – Arcade, SNES, Genesis
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995) – Arcade, SNES
  • Mortal Kombat 4 (1997) – Arcade
  • Mortal Kombat Advance (2001) – Game Boy Advance
  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002) – Game Boy Advance
  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition (2003) – Game Boy Advance

And that’s just what they’re showing for now. More games—and secrets—are still under wraps.

Flawless Online Kombat

You’ll have the opportunity to engage in online battles across various editions, including classic 16-bit console versions. Fancy executing Scorpion’s “GET OVER HERE!” move in the Genesis version of MK1 online? Give it a try. The automatic activation of the infamous blood code is included (though you can manually input it if you choose to remember it).

More Than Just Games

Similar to the collection offerings of “Tetris Forever” and “Atari 50”, this isn’t just about playing games, it’s an immersive historical account. Digital Eclipse has collaborated with Area 5 (creators of “Grounded II”) to provide a comprehensive package of behind-the-scenes materials: an interactive chronicle of the game development process.

  • Interviews with co-creators Ed Boon and John Tobias
  • Commentary from developers, actors, and fans
  • Never-before-seen concept art, prototypes, and motion-capture footage
  • Interactive timelines and digital exhibits

Imagine it as strolling through a Mortal Kombat exhibit, but with the added thrill that you could deliver an uppercut and send someone plummeting into a pit at any moment.

Fatal Secrets (For Now)

The creators hint that there’s more content coming soon. You can anticipate new topics, hidden details, and possibly uncovered materials being unveiled over the next few months.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection launches later in 2025.
