Morena Baccarin Talks Vanessa’s Small Role in Deadpool & Wolverine: “I Was Hardly On Set”

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the Marvel universe, I must admit that Morena Baccarin‘s journey with Vanessa and Deadpool has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Her recent interview on The Discourse podcast shed some light on the differences between her experience in Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.


Prior to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, there were numerous whispers about Morena Baccarin potentially reprising her role as Lady Deadpool. Instead, Blake Lively claimed that part. Later on, Morena made an appearance as Vanessa, albeit with a minor role, showing up in just a handful of scenes at the start and finish of the film.

In a recent chat on The Playlist’s podcast, The Discourse, Morena talked about her new thriller Elevation with Anthony Mackie and shared what had changed between Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.

She playfully remarked, “Indeed, my presence on set was minimal. That’s where most of the differences lay.” Later, she delved deeper into the alterations that occurred during production and behind the camera.

Indeed, I barely scratched the surface with that one. It made quite the impact, setting it apart. But don’t be fooled, I was just joking. In truth, it was a massive production overall. You see, Marvel is a powerhouse studio, and they have their unique methods. Consequently, it did feel remarkably different from [the others]. Just remember, the first film was practically an indie blockbuster, compared to their usual standards.

However, it wasn’t on the same magnitude as it is now. Moreover, we were producing a film that seemed somewhat peculiar to us – one that expressed our unique humor, but we wondered if others would find it amusing. Consequently, it felt incredibly distinctive and independent during its creation, in fact.
