More Than a Rap Show: Tyler, the Creator’s ‘CHROMAKOPIA’ World Tour Is a Celebration of Artistry and Legacy

It was easy to find fans attending the first night of Tyler, the Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA tour around Manila’s Araneta Coliseum. Many dressed in outfits inspired by his albums, showcasing a wide range of styles from classic Ivy League looks to fuzzy, colorful suits. This wasn’t just a concert for the crowd; it was a celebration of Tyler’s first-ever performance in the Philippines and a tribute to his impact as a modern artist. The colorful outfits also visually demonstrated Tyler’s constant creative growth, proving how difficult it is to categorize his work.

The show started with Paris Texas, and the crowd matched their energetic performance. They played a mix of songs from their different albums, including hits like “girls like drugs,” “PANIC!!!,” and “FORCE OF HABIT,” giving both longtime fans and new listeners a fresh experience. But Paris Texas was only the beginning of a very exciting night.

As the house lights faded and a message appeared on the screen – “DON’T TAP THE GLASS” – the opening notes of “Big Poe” filled the arena. Tyler, dressed head-to-toe in yellow – from his hat to his leather jacket and pants – instantly took control of the stage. He then launched into his popular song, “SUGAR ON MY TONGUE,” smoothly transitioning the atmosphere from bold and energetic to captivating and alluring.

When Tyler first took the stage in front of the packed coliseum, his first words were filled with thankfulness. He shared how surreal it felt that something starting with him simply making music in his room had led to this incredible moment. He admitted it had taken time, but he was finally performing in Manila, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

He launched into his performance with a high-energy set including tracks like “St. Chroma,” “Rah Tah Tah,” “Noid,” “Darling, I,” and “Sticky,” before slowing things down with “Take Your Mask Off.” Then, he treated longtime fans to a mix of his older hits. He played iconic songs from *IGOR*, such as “EARFQUAKE” and “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?,” classics from *GOBLIN* and *WOLF* like “She,” “Tamale,” and “IFHY,” and selections from *CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST* including “LUMBERJACK,” “DOGTOOTH,” “WUSYANAME,” and “SORRY NOT SORRY.” He encouraged the audience to sing along with him, and the crowd in Manila enthusiastically responded. The energetic performance also sparked mosh pits, a fitting reaction to the electrifying atmosphere.

The energy really spiked when he dropped a shorter version of “Who Dat Boy” with A$AP Rocky! But then things took a turn, and he hit us with “Like Him,” which was super emotional. The whole crowd was singing along – it’s a really haunting song. Honestly, “Like Him” and the whole set just proved how much Tyler’s grown as an artist. He used to be all about shock value, but now he’s showing a totally different, more vulnerable side, and it’s amazing.

He finished the show with the crowd-pleasing “See You Again” – a song the Manila audience sang perfectly – followed by “NEW MAGIC WAND” and “I Hope You Find Your Way Home.” Bathed in a blue spotlight, Tyler brought the energy down to a hopeful level, bowing gratefully and leaving the stage. He then returned for an encore performance of “Sugar On My Tongue.” In a final, interactive moment, Tyler and the audience shared an acapella exchange, enjoying the connection and creating a shared feeling of euphoria as the night came to a close.

Earlier in the show, Tyler jokingly told the Manila audience that they were extra special as the last stop on his long tour, and it’s hard to disagree! If he ever decides to take a break – and he deserves one after all this – it will be well-earned. We’re just so happy he finally made it to Manila.
