As a seasoned comic book enthusiast with a soft spot for Marvel’s darker tales, I must say that the ‘Phases of the Moon Knight‘ storyline has me absolutely thrilled! The blend of ancient lore and modern-day adventure is a recipe for an enthralling read.
The ‘Moon Knight Saga’ delves into the intricate lore of Moon Knight, focusing on the ties between Marc Spector and the former Fists of Khonshu throughout history.
The story mixes Marc’s modern-day quest for justice with new Moon Knights from ancient times. It uncovers long-lost secrets of the Marvel Universe tied to this ancient Moon Knight’s journey.
The most recent installment uncovers some hitherto unknown aspects of vampire lore. In the tale ‘Blood Moon, Blood Brothers’ by Tom Waltz and company, we are introduced to Moon Knight, a character from ancient Mesopotamia. The narrative chronicles Moon Knight’s struggle against Varnae, Marvel Comics’ first vampire, who is linked to the deity Ba’al and acts as a demon.
Varnae isn’t a new character in the comics. He was an ancient sorcerer from Atlantis who became the first vampire through a ritual with the Darkhold. As the creator of all vampires, he ruled over them for centuries. Later, he chose Count Dracula as his successor, manipulated him into becoming a vampire, and then took his own life. After Doctor Strange wiped out most vampires, Varnae returned and tried to reclaim his power.
Eventually, Varnae possessed Blade, triggering the global vampire conflict known as the Blood Hunt.
In the heart-pounding issue #4 of ‘Phases of Moon Knight’, I, as a gripped reader, witnessed Varnae striking a bargain with Ramsin. Ramsin, yearning for power, aimed to exploit the Blood Moon to seize control, a time when the throne was at its most exposed during this lunar phase.
In a thrilling turn of events, I, the gamer, have witnessed the ultimate showdown where Moon Knight emerged victorious over Varnae. This epic battle not only sealed Varnae’s fate but also sparked an intriguing theory that he was one of the original vampire hunters, and perhaps the most formidable among them. As unveiled in the latest comic issue, the Moon Knight’s war against the undead didn’t end with ancient times; it echoes into our modern world as well.
As a passionate fan, I’m sure you’re aware that the release of Blade has faced another delay and is now absent from Disney’s immediate lineup. But fear not, for Kevin Feige, the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has eased our concerns by confirming that the film is indeed in active development. Mahershala Ali remains firmly cast as the titular character, Blade. So, while we may have to wait a bit longer, rest assured that this vampire-slaying tale is still very much alive and kicking within the MCU!
In other words, could it be that these recent findings will find their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? As it stands, Moon Knight has already made an appearance in this universe, and his live-action series delved deeply into his rich mythos involving deities and creatures.
In another approach, the Marvel Cinematic Universe might introduce Moon Knight as a character who opens the door to vampires. Once Blade is prepared to join the plot, he could be brought in, potentially paving the way for the speculated Midnight Sons project.
