In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s crucial to take weapon bouncing into account, since it plays a major role in how successful your hunting will be.
In addition to being famed for its fearsome monsters, the Monster Hunter series stands out for its adaptable and thrilling battle mechanics. Capcom has meticulously designed 14 distinct weapons, each with unique gameplay styles, and a sharpness management system, resulting in an immersive and authentic combat experience.
Just as in real-world combat, frequent use of melee weapons gradually blunts their edge, causing strikes to miss targets. This occurrence, often called “Weapon Bouncing” among gamers, not only prevents successful attacks but also markedly diminishes the force behind each strike. Here’s a guide on how to avoid weapon bouncing and maintain optimal damage in Monster Hunter World.
What Is Weapon Bouncing, and How Does It Work in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The importance of sharpness cannot be overstated when it comes to melee weapons; it tends to lessen over time with frequent use. You can observe the weapon’s sharpness gauge at the upper left corner of your screen, right beneath the stamina bar. This gauge shows you the current level of your weapon’s sharpness, which is broken down into six categories: White, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red.
When my weapon’s sharpness gauge stays Green or higher, I can unleash my full arsenal without any issues. But once it dips down to Yellow, Orange, or Red, my attacks seem to just bounce off enemies, dealing almost no damage. Worse still, my weapon loses its ability to penetrate tough monster hide, and the damage output takes a significant hit, falling below normal levels.
How To Prevent Weapon Bouncing in Monster Hunter Wilds
In close-quarters fighting, keeping your weapon’s edge keen and preventing it from bouncing off an opponent is vital for dealing the most damage. Thankfully, a handy tool called a whetstone is at your disposal for regular sharpening. Whenever you need, you can use this tool to keep your weapon in top shape.
Instead of using it up close, it’s advisable to employ the Whetstone from a secure distance because it initiates a sharpening animation that temporarily makes you vulnerable. Meanwhile, you can effectively hone your weapon while mounted on your Seikret, which helps you dodge potential harm.
