Monster Hunter Wilds generously provides players with large quantities of an erstwhile scarce resource, but at the same time undervalues it significantly, and this is largely due to a swarm of small spiders.
Initially, let’s delve into some background information. Across the Monster Hunter games, certain top-tier gear necessitates a type of Monster Fluid for creation, usually obtained from lowly insect monsters. Crushing bugs – sounds simple, doesn’t it?
The issue is that eliminating these minuscule insects without damaging their bodies and the valuable fluids they contain can be quite frustrating, as it seems paradoxically difficult compared to removing scales from a dragon. Regrettably, I have vivid recollections of employing ineffective weapons during late-game hunts or amassing piles of poisonous traps to ensure minimal harm while eradicating these bugs. It was like herding cats in its aggravating unpredictability, but for specific armor pieces, there were no alternatives.
Move on to Monster Hunter World and it seems like Capcom is distributing Monster Essence as if it were candy on the street! I recently shared this with my hunting companions, and Monster Hunter animator NCH succinctly expressed it in a tweet: “Infinite monster essence… I can’t help but think about how challenging it was to obtain back in the previous games.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, they reintroduced the arachnid beast Nerscylla, accompanied by numerous baby Nerscyllas that can be swiftly eliminated in large numbers. Each one you crush will reward you with more Monster Fluid, and as demonstrated by NCH, you can even set up camp at their spawn point for an almost endless supply of fluid. This is another improvement that would leave traditional Monster Hunter players utterly amazed if you traveled back in time to reveal it, and I’m adding it to the list alongside slinger gathering as a clear advantage.
As a seasoned Monster Hunter, I’ve noticed an interesting twist – not many items in my arsenal require Monster Fluid anymore, and those that do don’t seem to be all that worthwhile. It’s like the game is playing a clever trick on us hunters, giving us gear, only to take it away again.
