Okay, so Capcom just dropped a new update for Monster Hunter Wilds – it’s version 1.040.03.01. As a player, what I’m really excited about is that it’s focused on making the game run smoother, especially for those of us on Steam. They’ve been working on reducing how much the game taxes our computers, and there are even options to tweak things further if you need to. The update itself is about 2 GB, but heads up – if you’re using the high-resolution texture pack, you’ll need to download another 31 GB. The good news is, after everything’s said and done, it actually saves you 45 GB of storage space in the long run, which is awesome!
Capcom suggests that players of Monster Hunter Wilds update to the latest graphics drivers for the best experience. Nvidia users should use driver version 581.57 or newer, and AMD users should use version 25.9.1 or 25.9.2. However, if you have an AMD Radeon GPU with driver version 25.10.2 or higher, Capcom advises caution as they’ve found some potential problems with those versions.
Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Wilds will receive an update on February 18th focused on improving performance and stability. This update will include options to adjust the game’s visual quality, which will reduce the strain on players’ graphics cards.
A Reddit user recently discovered that owning downloadable cosmetic content actually improved performance in Monster Hunter Wilds. This strange finding led to the creation of a mod that tricks the game into thinking all DLC is already owned, effectively stopping these performance-draining checks.
More testing showed the performance problem only occurred when players were near the Support Desk Felyne, the character who verifies if players own downloadable content.
You can play Monster Hunter Wilds on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Read our review to learn what we thought of the game at launch, and check out Capcom’s latest earnings report to see how well the game is selling – it recently reached a significant sales milestone!
