Monster Hunter Wilds Mizutsune release date and details

Tomorrow, the Mizutsune from Monster Hunter Wildspurse will officially be available, marking the first significant update for the game since its launch, which is part of the free Title Update 1 for spring. You may recognize Mizutsune as it has appeared in previous games; I’ve had the opportunity to battle it in earlier versions and can share insights about its vulnerabilities, capabilities, and strategies.

With that thought in mind, let me share all the essential details about the forthcoming Mizutsune monster in MH Wilds. You’ll learn strategies for fighting it, the precise date and time it will be launched, and how to access the hunt where you can engage in a battle against this symbol of aquatic chaos.

When is Mizutsune coming to Monster Hunter Wilds? Release date and time

The Mizutsune will be launched simultaneously with the initial free update for Monster Hunter Wilds, according to their development plan. Here are the specific release times/dates:

  • PDT: Thursday April 3, 2025 8:00PM
  • EDT: Thursday April 3, 2025 11:00PM
  • BST: Friday April 4, 2025 4:00AM

Unlike certain features of Title Update 1 that will roll out subsequently, Mizutsune becomes active immediately upon the update going live! It’s not the only novelty – a fresh Zoh Shia hunt is also on the horizon, along with event quests and additional content. More exciting additions such as the Arch Tempered Rey Dau are planned for release later.

Mizutsune weaknesses and strategy

As a seasoned hunter, I reckon Mizutsune in Monster Hunter Wilds follows its usual patterns. If that’s true, here are the weak spots you should aim for to bring it down:

1. Waterblight Wyvernfire (Weakness: Fire)
2. Waterblight Wyverstingclaw (Weakness: Thunder)
3. Waterblight Wyvernamerule (Weakness: Water)
4. Waterblight Wyverback (Weakness: Dragon)
5. Waterblight Wyverwing (Weakness: Ice)

Remember, a well-placed shot at these weak spots could make the hunt a breeze! Good luck, Hunter!

  • Thunder damage (3 stars)
  • Dragon damage (2 stars)
  • Ice damage (1 star)

As a gamer, I often face underwater behemoths that are invulnerable to water attacks and have a high resistance to fire. Therefore, it’s wise to strategize differently when tackling these aquatic adversaries.

When I’m in a fight, Mizutsune is notorious for being slippery and swift, whipping around, hopping, and darting in erratic patterns. It blasts jets of water from its snout and generates bubbles with each attack that linger on the battlefield.

In past games, these bubbles would cause the Bubbleblight status, which had two levels. Initially, this state acted as a boost for the player, enhancing their ability to dodge and reducing stamina consumption. However, getting hit by another bubble while in this state escalated it to level 2, making the player move slippery and unstable, like they were covered in soap. To get rid of either stage, you have two options: either wait for it to wear off naturally or use a Cleanser item. Given Mizutsune’s powerful attacks, it’s best to cure yourself quickly as sliding around makes dodging its attacks even more challenging.

In this battle, agility, quickness, and dodging skills are the keys to victory. Mizutsune moves swiftly, so I need to be swifter on my toes. The Bubbleblight and Waterblight conditions are designed to slow me down and reduce my accuracy. To counteract this, I’ll have to respond quickly with defensive maneuvers and steer clear of dangerous zones like the monster’s head. Weapons that promote speed, such as the Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades, work best in such situations.

How to hunt Mizutsune in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom has revealed the location for tracking down the Mizutsune in Monster Hunter Stories: Rise, along with the prerequisites required to engage it in combat.

  1. Reach Hunter Rank (HR) 21+.
  2. Reach the Scarlet Forest area as part of the main story.
  3. A new Mizutsune mission will unlock after you speak to Kanya in the main camp (she gives you the fishing related quests to find creatures like the Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds).
