Although Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak hasn’t been released in many regions yet, Capcom has already started providing hints regarding its first significant update. Some details of the update plan were revealed during the State of Play event in February, such as the confirmation that Mizutsune would be the initial post-launch monster introduced to the game, which I’m particularly excited about personally.
Starting from early April, we’ll have an update titled “Title Update 1.” This gives players ample opportunity to delve into the narrative and grind for high-level items.
It seems I can’t help but share the sentiment that Capcom appears to be addressing some concerns that have been echoed in certain circles within the Monster Hunter community. The debate around monster difficulty, sparked by a few reviews suggesting a less challenging game compared to past series, and the absence of player homes or huts, are topics I’ve seen discussed frequently on my social media feeds. Interestingly, these are exactly the points that the official Monster Hunter Twitter page has highlighted in their update information.
The initial post seems to hint at an increased level of difficulty in the upcoming TU1! Gather your equipment and determination, hunters! This update might introduce a beast of extraordinary power, surpassing the Tempered monsters you’ve encountered before. Additionally, another tough-as-nails monster is said to be lurking as well. In simpler terms, it appears that we may face something other than Mizutsune, a creature possibly infused with a potent Monster Hunter steroid, making it a truly grueling fight.
Regarding the game, it appears that some players find it too simple, an opinion I don’t entirely agree with after 100 hours of playtime. However, I do acknowledge that a blend of player expertise, streamlined mechanics, and the wound system have undeniably diminished much of the difficulty found in earlier versions. This seems to echo Capcom’s efforts to clear up any accusations of easy gameplay.
There’s a hint that we might soon see a central hub or personal player space, something fans have been expressing their desire for in Wilds. A recent tweet reads, “A Place to Gather.” In Monster Hunter Wilds update 1, a new location where hunters can interact, dine together, and more with other players will be added. This area will only be accessible to players who have completed the main story, so start hunting now and get ready!
Frankly speaking, Capcom’s upcoming game, The Wilds, has already sparked my enthusiasm for what’s to come in the near future. If it’s anything like World and Rise, we can expect a variety of exciting new features and hunts to be added over the next year or so. And let’s not forget about the expansion pack that’s bound to arrive eventually. Here’s hoping that, with The Wilds becoming the most successful Monster Hunter game yet, we’ll receive more frequent updates and modifications than ever before. The more monster hunting I get to do, the happier I’ll be!
In his review of Monster Hunter Wilds, our very own Lincoln Carpenter didn’t directly point out the challenge, but he did bring attention to Capcom’s aggressive simplification, which might have been taken a bit too far. He described Monster Hunter Wilds as a significant milestone, stating that additions like Focus Strikes introduce exciting new aspects to an already indulgent combat system, and its continuous hunts and changing seasons bring the series closer to creating a living environment for its monsters. However, with less emphasis on Monster Hunter’s past, it seems that some of the soul of the game is absent in this wilderness.
