Monster Hunter Wilds’ Excessive DLC Checks Impact PC Performance, But Only in One Specific Area

Recently, players have been experiencing performance problems with Monster Hunter Wilds on PC, and it seemed strange to learn that checks for downloadable content (DLC) might be contributing to the issue. However, a detailed analysis by Digital Foundry suggests there is a connection, but the reason isn’t what most people assumed.

Frame rate drops happen specifically in the hub area, and only when you’re close to the Felyne who verifies your downloaded content. One user tested a mod called “Less DLC Checks” and saw a performance boost with a Ryzen 5 3600 processor. Playing at 1440p resolution with Ultra settings, ray tracing enabled, and DLSS on Balanced, they experienced an 11.4% increase in frames per second.

As a fan, I was really hoping for a big boost, but even with all the settings turned down and DLSS cranked up to its fastest, I only saw about a 25% improvement in performance. Honestly, it didn’t change how the game felt to play – going out and hunting monsters still felt the same. And it’s a shame, because this is something only PC players are running into, which is probably why you won’t see it highlighted in any of the ads.
