At the onset of Monster Hunter Wilds, Erik is introduced as a member of Olivia’s squad exploring the Scarlet Forest. He exhibits a curious and lively demeanor, demonstrating a keen interest in the local plants and animals. Alma mentions having recognized Erik from his reputation at the Academy.
While exploring the Scarlet Forest in search of Doshagum signs, Erik spotted unique red blooms that he recognized as Lala Barina and warned about its debilitating venom. Carried away by curiosity, Erik ventured ahead alone, was ensnared by the monster, and became trapped. This marked our initial encounter with the beast. The Hunter (the player character) and Olivia managed to eliminate it, with the Hunter ultimately tracking down and slaying the Lala Barina.
