Mon Mothma Star Genevieve O’Reilly Says Andor Season 2 Is the Story She “Always Hoped For”

Genevieve O’Reilly has been associated with the character Mon Mothma in Star Wars for twenty years now, starting from her initial casting in Revenge of the Sith. Despite her scenes being omitted from that film, her association with the character didn’t come to an end. As Andor season 2 prepares to debut, O’Reilly expresses that this is the story she has always desired to tell.

In a chat with GamesRadar+, O’Reilly expressed her joy about delving deeper into Mon Mothma’s character in ‘Andor’. She stated, “I believe Andor is the tale I longed for Mon Mothma. I had always wished she could have this defining moment for the character, for herself, for the woman she represents within that universe. I feel truly fortunate to have been given the chance to portray her during this pivotal time.

O’Reilly has portrayed Mon Mothma in various Star Wars productions. She made an appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, lent her voice to the character in shows such as Star Wars Rebels, and reprised her role during the first season of Andor.

In the second season, we find ourselves a year after the conclusion of the first, delving into four years of Mon Mothma’s life, culminating in the timeframe of the movie, “Rogue One”.

The upcoming season kicks off featuring a wedding scene, hinted at in previews, and delves into Mon Mothma’s journey within the Rebellion, showcasing her rise and challenges. This is a pivotal period for her character, marked by tough decisions and dangerous endeavors.

Lovers of “Star Wars Rebels” might find familiarity in this stage of Mon Mothma’s storyline. In the series, her courageous act of defying the Empire by voicing her opposition is a pivotal scene.

In the world of “Andor,” I’m excitedly stepping into uncharted territory. Unlike previous stories, this one delves deeper, offering a more intimate and emotionally resonant portrayal of its protagonist.

Tony fashioned a unique area while preserving the established rules and history,” O’Reilly stated, “and remarkably, he created room for her character to express herself – which was incredibly meaningful to me.

In this upcoming season, we’ll delve deeper into the story of Cassian Andor, tracing the events that united the Rebel Alliance prior to the timeline of “Rogue One”.
