Jimmy Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, recently shared that she’s become estranged from some family members because they support Donald Trump. On the podcast We Can Do Hard Things, she explained that she attempted to persuade her conservative relatives not to vote for him in the 2024 election.
McNearney shared that she was raised in a Republican family and at first, understood why some of her relatives supported Trump. But after moving out and meeting people with different viewpoints, her perspective shifted. While she felt some compassion for family members who had been intentionally given false information, she still found it difficult to accept their decisions.
McNearney explained that it’s deeply upsetting to her because her husband is directly opposing someone who is supported by members of her own family. She feels their support for Trump is a rejection of her husband, herself, and their family, and this has unfortunately strained some of her family relationships.
She clarified that her disputes weren’t about politics overall, but specifically about differing views on “family values.” McNearney remembered emailing family members explaining why she wouldn’t vote for Trump, but most didn’t respond, and some sent replies she considered extremely unreasonable, which damaged their relationships.
McNearney admits she’s drifted apart from some family members with different beliefs, but feels closer to those who share her values. She’s saddened by the situation, saying, “It feels silly,” but explains it’s not simply about politics. “It’s about core values,” she said, “and we just don’t see eye-to-eye anymore.”
Jimmy Kimmel’s wife and show producer, Molly McNearney, recently shared that she’s experiencing strain in her relationships with family members who voted for Donald Trump. She expressed a desire to somehow ‘deprogram’ herself from the emotional impact of their political choices, explaining that she feels their vote for Trump is a rejection of her family and husband. She emphasized that this issue goes beyond typical political differences.

These remarks from McNearney follow continued public disapproval of Trump from her husband, Jimmy Kimmel, who often jokes about the president on his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and elsewhere.
