It’s confirmed that Mole Man will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a Fantastic Four comic adaptation for the big screen now officially underway.
The design on the front is a tribute to the initial issue (number 1) of The Fantastic Four comic book that came out in 1961, where we first encounter the FF alongside Mole Man and a monster from beneath the earth.
There’s a strong belief, although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, that actor Paul Walter Hauser might be portraying the character of Mole Man in the upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”.
What are the details about the comic?
Through Deadline, Marvel Studios and Marvel Comics are collaborating on a one-shot titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” set to be published on July 2. This comic book release is approximately three weeks prior to the premiere of the upcoming movie.
Matt Fraction serves as the writer for the project, having been previously consulted by FF director Matt Shakman during the movie’s development, since Fraction had penned a previous run of the Fantastic Four comic series. Fraction also made a visit to the film set. The artwork is handled by Mark Buckingham, with cover art provided by Phil Noto, inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe designs created by production designer Kasra Farahani.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that, similar to the film, the upcoming comic book skips the origin tale of the Fantastic Four and instead dives straight into events four years after their transformation into superheroes.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve come across intriguing tidbits about this upcoming film – specifically, it seems that the comic book in question hails from the Future Foundation itself. Remarkably, it appears to be crafted as an artifact straight from the world of our soon-to-be blockbuster, implying that this comic may not just exist within our realm, but within the Fantastic Four’s world as well.
Marvel Comics Chief Editor C.B. Cebulski stated, “The Fantastic Four have always been essential to Marvel’s universe, and with the upcoming comic The Fantastic Four: First Steps, we wanted to collaborate across our publishing and film teams to pay tribute to their enduring legacy. It’s been fun exchanging ideas between our departments to develop something extraordinary and unique. We’re excited for fans to read this comic set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) this summer, as it offers a fresh take on the Fantastic Four unlike any other!
Speaking as a passionate movie buff, I can’t help but express my excitement about how Marvel’s essence originates from the comic books. Kevin and his team have been magnificently translating those vibrant pages into movies that leave us spellbound with every release. Now, with this comic, we’re merging those two realms in a way that we believe will captivate fans everywhere.
