It’s been a while since ‘Modern Family’ ended, but the actors haven’t slowed down! They’ve been pursuing new projects – from movies and theater to podcasts and personal achievements. Everyone has found exciting ways to use their talents after the show. Here’s an update on what the cast members are doing now and where you can see their latest work.
Ed O’Neill
Ed O’Neill is back in the spotlight with several projects. In 2024, he starred as Donald Sterling in the FX on Hulu miniseries ‘Clipped’ and took on a recurring role in Ryan Murphy’s Hulu legal drama, ‘All’s Fair’. He’s also been frequently discussing his time on ‘Modern Family’ and often appears at cast reunions and industry gatherings.
Sofía Vergara
Sofía Vergara gained recognition for her powerful performance as drug lord Griselda Blanco in the 2024 Netflix series of the same name. She also continues to appear as a judge on ‘America’s Got Talent’ through 2025. In addition to her work in front of the camera, Vergara is expanding her business interests in beauty and fashion, with brands like her Toty suncare line and various clothing collections. She often makes appearances and does interviews with her former colleagues from past projects.
Julie Bowen
Julie Bowen hosts the podcast ‘Quitters,’ interviewing people about big changes they’ve made in their lives and careers. Since finishing ‘Modern Family,’ she’s been working on a variety of acting projects, including comedies. In 2025, she’ll reprise a popular role in a sports comedy connected to Adam Sandler’s films. Beyond her work, Julie also dedicates time to charities and occasionally reunites with her former castmates.
Ty Burrell
Since finishing his long-running TV show, Ty Burrell has made Utah his home and become involved in the local bar scene as a co-owner. He’s also dedicated to giving back to the community, recently helping raise money for service workers impacted by a fire in Salt Lake City. While he still does voice acting and occasionally appears in TV or film projects, he’s now focused on spending time with his family and enjoying life outside of Los Angeles. He’s still a well-known and welcome figure at charity events and those related to sports.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson
I’m such a fan of Jesse Tyler Ferguson! It was amazing to see him win a Tony Award in 2022 for ‘Take Me Out’ on Broadway, and he clearly still loves the theater world. I especially enjoy his podcast, ‘Dinner’s On Me’ – it’s already over 100 episodes! He interviews fascinating people and it’s not just talk – he also shares amazing food and travel tips related to each guest. He even partners with restaurants for special podcast recordings, which is so creative. And when he’s not doing all that, he’s popping up on TV or supporting theater causes. He’s incredibly talented and generous with his time!
Eric Stonestreet
Eric Stonestreet has branched out into unscripted television, hosting and producing ‘Domino Masters’ while also taking on various guest appearances and hosting events. He recently joined the holiday universe with his role as Mad Santa in ‘The Santa Clauses’ (2023), and has a new scripted crime drama project coming out in 2025. Beyond acting, Eric stays connected with his fans through social media, supports health initiatives and local community work, and remains a dedicated fan of Kansas City sports.
Sarah Hyland
I’ve been such a fan of Sarah Hyland! It was so fun watching her host ‘Love Island USA’ for a couple of seasons, and I totally understand her needing to focus on other things in 2024. I was thrilled to see her back on stage in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ this year – she’s a natural! And getting to see her revisit the ‘Pitch Perfect’ universe with ‘Bumper in Berlin’ was a real treat. Beyond acting, I admire how she uses her platform – from her work with women’s health to showing up at all the fun pop culture events, she’s just amazing!
Ariel Winter
Since moving away from Los Angeles in 2022, Ariel Winter has been working as an actress and also producing smaller, more intimate films. She appeared on the reality show ‘Stars on Mars’ in 2023 and continues to do voice acting and work on independent films, including some recent thrillers. In 2025, she discussed prioritizing her health and carefully choosing the projects she takes on. She stays connected with her fans through social media and makes appearances at events related to her animated roles.
Nolan Gould
Nolan Gould starred in the 2023 historical drama ‘Miranda’s Victim’ and the comedy mockumentary ‘The Nana Project,’ which had a broader release in 2024. He’s still actively auditioning for roles in film and TV, and is also developing his skills as a writer and exploring work behind the scenes. When he’s making public appearances, he frequently uses the opportunity to promote environmental causes and STEM education. He remains close with his former castmates, often attending reunions and participating in interviews with them.
Rico Rodriguez
Rico Rodriguez, known for his role on ‘Modern Family,’ has been focusing on personal projects but recently started connecting with fans again through interviews and podcasts. He appeared on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s show in June 2025, where he talked about his experiences learning while filming and how supportive the cast was after his father’s death. While exploring new acting roles, he’s also prioritized personal growth and continues to maintain close relationships with his ‘Modern Family’ co-stars, often celebrating their achievements together.
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons
It’s been amazing watching Aubrey Anderson-Emmons grow up! After finishing high school, she started really focusing on music, and it’s so cool to see her pursuing that passion. She just released her first single in May 2025, and she’s talked about how being in school plays really helped her rediscover her love for performing. She’s super open on social media about what it’s like moving from being a kid actor to becoming a young adult artist, and she’s still taking classes and considering both acting roles and making more music. I’m really excited to see what she does next!
Jeremy Maguire
Jeremy Maguire, known for playing Joe Pritchett, is prioritizing school but still takes on acting jobs and voiceover work. He shares glimpses of his life – including auditions and family moments – with fans on social media. Since ‘Modern Family,’ he’s appeared in the film ‘I’m Not Here’ and on other TV shows. Now that he’s getting older, he’s working with his team to find roles that are a good fit for his age and as he transitions into teenage characters.
Reid Ewing
Reid Ewing balances acting with passionate advocacy for mental health, particularly body dysmorphic disorder. He shares his experiences through interviews and events, hoping to help young people facing similar struggles. When he’s not acting, he enjoys creative projects like music and writing, and he stays connected with his former colleagues, sometimes attending fan events.
