It can’t be denied that Val Kilmer was a cherished and respected actor by numerous individuals. Notably, Tom Cruise, who recently reminisced about the moments they shared on-screen in Top Gun, highlighted working with Kilmer as an incredibly thrilling experience. He warmly recollected their time together.
During an interview with Sight and Sound magazine for their current feature article, Tom Cruise, at the age of 62, commended Val Kilmer’s considerate acting style. He discussed their partnership in both the 1986 film Top Gun and the recently released Top Gun: Maverick.
Initially, Tom Cruise, known for his role in Edge of Tomorrow, expressed heartfelt gratitude that Val Kilmer eventually agreed to be part of the film project. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cruise explained that he worked diligently to persuade Kilmer, who was initially unsure due to his initial limited role. Despite being cast for a supporting part, Kilmer’s apprehension made him hesitant.
According to Cruise, he had been trying to reach his agent, when suddenly, Director Tony Scott began tracking him down and they crossed paths in an elevator. In the cramped space, Scott pleaded with Cruise, saying, “Val, I really need you for this role.
After spending time with Val Kilmer, Tom Cruise characterized him as an exceptional performer and a captivating personality.
In simpler terms, the actor who played The Mummy pointed out that Val Kilmer perfectly embodied the character of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in Top Gun. By the end of the film, according to him, Maverick and Iceman had developed such a strong bond that they became friends on-screen.
Tom Cruise recalled the days of filming Top Gun with Kilmer as if it happened just yesterday, mentioning their acting moments, specifically the scene where Kilmer performed that distinctive “bite” action.
Pondering over Kilmer’s brief screen appearances, Cruise noted that although his role was short-lived, spanning roughly 10 minutes, it left an indelible impression on everyone working alongside him.
65 years young and still a captivating figure, Val Kilmer took his final bow on the stage of life on April 1st, succumbing to pneumonia. As for me, I’m eagerly awaiting Tom Cruise’s return in Mission: ImpossibleThe Final Reckoning, gracing our screens on May 17, 2025. Can’t wait!
