With Minions 3/Minions & Monsters, fans are getting exactly what they’ve been hoping for: more hilarious adventures with those lovable yellow creatures – and this time, with monsters! It seems the Minions are diving into the world of monster movies, and luckily, Universal Pictures and Illumination have plenty of monsters to choose from. This combination of Minions and classic monsters is a winning one!
Along with the trailer, here’s a detailed overview of the plot for Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Following the huge success of Despicable Me 4, Illumination is adding a new, hilarious adventure to its popular animated world with Minions & Monsters. This film introduces fresh characters and continues the story of one of the most successful animated franchises ever.
Get ready for the wild, hilarious, and completely true tale of the Minions! It’s a story about how they took over Hollywood, became famous actors, then lost it all. They accidentally unleashed monsters and now must work together to fix the chaos they caused and save the world.
I just got a look at Minions & Monsters, and it’s great to see Pierre Coffin back in the director’s chair. He’s the talent behind all the Despicable Me movies and the first Minions film, and he is the voice of those little guys – he’s been doing it since they first hit the big screen back in 2010! The script is a solid effort from Brian Lynch, who also worked on Minions and The Secret Life of Pets, alongside Coffin himself. And it’s exciting to have Chris Meledandri, the founder and CEO of Illumination – and an Oscar nominee, no less – producing, along with Bill Ryan, who was an executive producer on The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Brian Lynch also steps in as an executive producer here, which is a nice touch.
The Minions, first appearing over a decade ago, are now the most recognizable animated characters of their time. They’ve captured the hearts of fans worldwide and helped make Illumination’s Despicable Me and Minions films a massive box office success, earning over $5.6 billion globally.

In Minions: Rise of Gru, Gru teams up with Wild Knuckles, a notorious supervillain and the former leader of the Vicious 6. When the Vicious 6 come after them, Gru and Wild Knuckles must work together to stop them. The Minions ultimately save the day by using the Zodiac Stone to transform into powerful animal monsters and defeat the villains. Afterward, Gru brings the Minions back on board and welcomes Dr. Nefario as his resident scientist. It was a fun and exciting story, and fans are eagerly anticipating Minions 3/Minions & Monsters, hoping it will be even better.

The Minions – those yellow, overall-clad creatures with a serious banana fixation – aren’t exactly highbrow entertainment, but sometimes you just need a good, silly laugh. A little goofy humor never hurt anyone, and seeing those little guys hang out with monsters is surprisingly fun.
Minions 3/Minions & Monsters hits theaters on July 1, 2026.
