Minecraft Movie’s Box Office Plunge: Can It Survive?

Yesterday’s reflection led me to realize that “A Minecraft Movie” experienced quite an impressive leap at the box office on Tuesday. This surge was largely due to theater discounts, propelling it to become the fourth-largest Tuesday gross in April! As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at its success.

On Tuesday, the “Minecraft” film grossed approximately $12.7 million, marking a significant drop from Monday’s earnings but still ranking fourth for April box office takings. This figure is overshadowed only by 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” ($33.1M), 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros Movie” ($15.4M), and 2015’s “F7” ($13.3M).

Following closely behind Super Mario and A Minecraft Movie, Barbie also saw a strong start with an impressive $26M on its first Tuesday. However, despite Minecraft outperforming both films during its opening weekend, there’s some debate about whether the movie will maintain its momentum.

Second weekend estimates

In its second week, the estimated earnings for The Minecraft Film are projected to be approximately $65 million, representing a potential decline of about 60%.

In their second weekend, Barbie fell by just 42.6%, earning $93 million, while Super Mario experienced a drop of 36.9% and grossed $92.3 million.

Or

Barbie lost 42.6% less than expected in its second weekend, raking in $93 million, compared to Super Mario which dropped by 36.9%, making $92.3 million during the same period.

After 5 days, Minecraft is at $185.M; Barbie was at $214M, and Super Mario at $204.6M.

This upcoming weekend is set to be a significant challenge for Minecraft, as there are no competitions scheduled and children begin their summer vacations. Here’s the latest box office data: (Followed by the actual data)
