The latest must-see film in theaters is titled ‘Minecraft on the Big Screen.’ This movie has been setting records and surpassing all predictions at the box office.
Just now, my 17-year-old returned home after watching Minecraft with a group of his friends. They’ve been playing this game together since they were young. Much like millions of others, they had reservations about the initial movie trailer and weren’t initially convinced by Jack Black portraying Steve.
Yet, once they stepped into the cinema, the atmosphere shifted dramatically – much like what’s portrayed in viral video clips online, the audience remained engaged and lively from start to finish. “It’s more than just a film,” he shared with me, “it’s a meme movie.
Opening weekend box office estimates
Initial weekend earnings projections within the United States are forecasted to exceed $135 million, which is significantly more than the previous estimate, which was less than half of this figure just a few weeks prior.
Previously, I had my doubts about the success of “A Minecraft Movie” given its poor initial ticket sales. Yet, it turned out to be quite different as there were many last-minute attendees.
As a passionate moviegoer, I’ve got to share some fascinating numbers from the box office world! On Thursday alone, Minecraft managed an impressive earnings of $10.55 million. Adding Friday’s haul to that, it raked in a whopping $58 million, taking into account the Thursday preview numbers too. Now, compare that to Super Mario’s opening 3-day weekend earnings of $146.3 million. While Super Mario went on to amass an astounding $1.3 billion worldwide, Minecraft has certainly given it a run for its money!
Globally, the release of “The Minecraft Film” appears to be on track for an opening weekend earnings exceeding $260 million, and it has already garnered approximately $125 million from international box office sales.
Reactions
Critics aren’t being overly generous with their reviews for “A Minecraft Movie,” giving it a rather low 49% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience’s opinion is quite different, with an impressive 87% approval rating. Although this isn’t fantastic, it’s still better than average compared to Super Mario’s remarkable 95%. Interestingly, even Super Mario only managed a 59% rating from critics.
