Anticipation grows for the upcoming movie ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ as fans catch their first glimpse of Milly Alcock stepping into the legendary role of Kara Zor-El. The DC Universe is undergoing an adventurous makeover, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and this film appears to be a crucial part of their innovative plan. As production moves forward, a leaked photo has ignited discussions among us, eagerly waiting for more sneak peeks.
In the photo posted by @UnBoxPHDFILM, Alcock is seen on set, perched atop what seems like an armored vehicle. Despite the challenging angle, it’s evident that the costume has strong ties to its comic book origins, skillfully combining traditional aspects with a modern twist. We can’t wait to see her embodying a character who has been cherished by fans since her introduction in Action Comics #252 from 1959.
This suit features vivid blue arm sleeves, a prominent golden waistband, and a red skirt that matches its boots. A short, red cape suggests her Kryptonian ancestry, although some believe digital effects could lengthen it for added impact. The overall design seems to be inspired by the celebrated comic book series of Tom King and Bilquis Evely, which is the basis for this film adaptation.

One captivating aspect that heightens curiosity is a shadowy character seemingly like Jason Momoa, portraying the rowdy bounty hunter Lobo. This casting, combined with Matthias Schoenaerts as the antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hills and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, lends a rugged edge to this space saga. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham complete the ensemble as Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura.
Principal photography commenced at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, England in January 2025. Additional filming is scheduled to take place in Iceland’s dramatic landscapes. The production is slated to conclude by May, allowing director Craig Gillespie ample time to create a story that James Gunn describes as a ‘magnificent, cosmic saga.’ The movie will hit theaters on June 26, 2026, making it the second installment in DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters series, following ‘Superman,’ which is set to release in July 2025.
Unlike Superman (Kal-El), who was nurtured on Earth, this version of Supergirl experienced her childhood amidst Krypton’s demise, making her a grittier and more world-weary heroine. Ana Nogueira’s script emphasizes this somber aspect, suggesting a science fiction saga that differentiates itself from previous representations, such as Melissa Benoist’s TV series or the 1984 movie.
Up until now, most shots have been taken inside or at secret locations, keeping things hidden. However, as the team shifts to open public areas, we can expect more glimpses of Alcock in action. Whether DC will unveil his official costume soon is uncertain, but for now, this sneak peek has us eagerly awaiting Kara’s return to the big screen.
