Milly Alcock hints that the new Supergirl series will focus on a more relatable message. Like the recently released trailer suggests, this version of Kara Zor-El won’t be portrayed as flawless or overly refined.
In an interview with Beyond Noise Magazine, Issue 5, Alcock expressed her hope that the film will empower young girls to embrace their imperfections and not be afraid to be a little flawed or messy.

Milly Alcock teases the message of Supergirl
The quote lines up with what has already been said about the DCU take on Supergirl.
Instead of making Kara a perfect replica of Superman, the new movie portrays her as more flawed and hardened, a result of a difficult childhood.
That also suggests Supergirl could lean harder into the flawed, rebellious side of Kara.
Alcock’s description of the film as “bad” and “messy” suggests it’s aiming for a realistic portrayal, rather than a typical, feel-good story about overcoming obstacles.
She believes the movie should empower young girls to embrace imperfections and not be afraid to be a little messy or flawed.

A different kind of hero from Superman
James Gunn has stated that this new Supergirl will be a much more hardened character, distinct from Superman, and the movie itself will have a grittier tone than previous Superman films.
Alcock’s statement suggests the film is heading in an interesting direction. It seems to be portraying Kara Zor-El as a character who is more spontaneous, emotionally vulnerable, and complex than typical depictions of the House of El.
What’s next for Supergirl
The movie Supergirl is scheduled to come out on June 26, 2026. Craig Gillespie is directing, and the film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Jason Momoa will play Lobo, Eve Ridley will play Ruthye Marye Knoll, and Matthias Schoenaerts will be the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills.
