Miley Cyrus seemed disappointed when Lady Gaga won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album this Sunday. Both singers were nominated in the category: Miley for her 2025 album, Something Beautiful, and Lady Gaga for her popular album, Mayhem.
When Lady Gaga won, she immediately started crying and kissed her fiancé, Michael Polansky, as the audience gave her a standing ovation. Sabrina Carpenter, who didn’t win, happily cheered and applauded to show her support.
When the cameras focused on Miley Cyrus, age thirty-three, she stayed seated and didn’t join the standing ovation. She seemed to quietly say something to her fiancé, Maxx Morando, with a slight, unimpressed smile. Although she might have clapped briefly before the camera showed her, her decision not to stand was quickly met with strong criticism online.
Gaga appeared moved as she began performing, sharing that she still sometimes can’t believe her success, even after so many years in the music business. She warmly acknowledged Polansky, an executive producer on the album, and thanked him for his dedication and hard work alongside her throughout the past year.
As a huge music fan, I loved hearing what the artist behind “Abracadabra” had to say. She really spoke to the challenges women face in the recording studio – it’s still so often a guy’s world. Her advice to other female artists was spot-on: always believe in your gut and really fight for what you want creatively. She wrapped things up by saying her album, Mayhem, was all about hard work and dedication, and she was so thankful for everyone who helped bring her vision to life. It was a really inspiring message.
This year is bringing big changes for both stars. Lady Gaga is currently on her worldwide Mayhem Ball Tour, which will wrap up in New York City this April. She’s also getting back into acting, having finished filming for the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, expected to be released in May.
Miley Cyrus has been in the news lately because she’s engaged to Maxx Morando, and people have noticed her large diamond ring at various events. She’s also rumored to be working on a project to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana, possibly including a return to her early style with a special Backyard Sessions performance.
