Miley Cyrus recently opened up about her life, discussing the difficulties of growing up in the spotlight and her journey to getting sober. She also revisited her early career, celebrating the 20th anniversary of her hit show, “Hannah Montana,” with a special event. Fans can watch the celebration on Disney+ starting March 24.
Miley Cyrus first became famous playing the lead role in Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana,” a show about a teen who secretly lives as a pop star. The show was a huge success, quickly making Cyrus a well-known young celebrity. The show’s songs were very popular, and her 2007 concert tour, “Best of Both Worlds,” sold out arenas all over North America.
Following the end of her Disney show, Miley Cyrus transformed her image and music, achieving success with songs like “Wrecking Ball” and “Flowers.” She became known for her bold and experimental style. Reflecting on her career, Cyrus explains that many artists feel they need to discard parts of their past to evolve, but she prefers to embrace all her experiences. She describes herself as a ‘gorgeous patchwork blanket,’ a mosaic of who she is today, carrying her history with her rather than leaving it behind.
Cyrus acknowledges that becoming famous wasn’t easy. She dealt with a lot of public attention and faced several controversies, like the release of private videos and photos. However, she believes dwelling on past mistakes is unproductive, stating, “Regret is so in the past and pointless.”
The pandemic proved to be a pivotal moment in her life, leading her to commit to sobriety. She realized she’d become accustomed to constantly seeking a ‘high’ and hadn’t learned how to cope without it. Now sober, she’s able to approach her past with self-compassion and understanding. She also found therapy, particularly EMDR, to be instrumental in managing her anxiety and overcoming stage fright.
Even though she’s faced challenges in the past, Miley Cyrus has achieved a good balance in her life now. She doesn’t tour as much, preferring to perform at select events and private shows. She’s also prioritized her personal life, focusing on family and keeping her romantic relationships out of the public eye. As she explains, she’s able to have everything she wants, while still getting to perform her hit song ‘This Is the Life’ and connect with fans – and she’s intentionally built her life to allow for both.
Cyrus explains that her life’s been about evolving, not disowning who she used to be. She wants to acknowledge and respect her younger self while fully accepting who she is now. She used to create a public persona, ‘Miley Cyrus,’ as a way to shield her private self, but now she’s able to combine everything she likes about all those different sides of herself into one complete person.
Returning for the “Hannah Montana” anniversary show is a chance for her to celebrate the character and how far she’s come personally. She wants it to remind fans of the special bond they had with her growing up and to show them how much she’s developed since her days as a child star.
Miley Cyrus’s journey, from the challenges of early fame and public attention to achieving sobriety and self-acceptance, demonstrates her ability to take charge of her life and career.
