Microsoft announces AMD team-up for next-gen Xbox and handheld devices

Microsoft‘s Sarah Bond has revealed a collaborative strategy with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to design and manufacture the upcoming line of Xbox gaming consoles and portable devices jointly.

In partnership with AMD, we’re pushing boundaries in gaming silicon technology to bring forth the next wave of graphics advancements. This leap will offer unprecedented visual quality and an immersive gaming experience, enriched by AI capabilities. Yet, it’s designed to be compatible with your current collection of Xbox games, ensuring backward compatibility remains a top priority for our next-generation console,” Bond emphasized.

In the announcement, it was made clear that the upcoming Xbox devices will not require purchases exclusively from the Microsoft Store.

She explained, “I’m talking about constructing a versatile gaming platform that travels with you. This way, you can enjoy your preferred games on multiple devices, anytime and anywhere, providing an Xbox-like experience. The catch is, this experience won’t be confined to a specific store or limited to one device.

Microsoft’s marketing strategy for Xbox this year revolves around portraying it as more than just a gaming console. They emphasize its versatility, allowing players to enjoy games not only on the console but also on PC or through cloud services. A recent development in this direction is the introduction of two handheld PC devices bearing the Xbox brand, manufactured by ASUS, thus expanding the Xbox family. The new image of what an Xbox represents appears to be a key aspect of its upcoming generation, as suggested by Bond’s observations.
