As a die-hard fan of Bong Joon-ho’s masterpieces, I must say the news about the delay of Mickey 17 has sent a shiver down my spine, but not for long! The thought of seeing this highly anticipated science fiction film on the big screen, especially in IMAX, during the Easter holiday crowd is enough to warm my heart.
The much-anticipated sci-fi film by Bong Joon-ho, titled Mickey 17, appears to have its launch postponed once more, according to recent reports. But here’s some positive news for those excited about seeing it: the delay could mean that we might be getting even closer to watching this highly-awaited movie soon!
According to Comicbook.com, it was revealed this week that the release has been pushed back, now scheduled for April 18, 2025. Originally, Mickey 17 was expected on January 21, 2025.
Initially, the three-month postponement could potentially dampen excitement, but don’t fret because the studio has a grand strategy related to the delay. According to Variety, this move enables the film to be screened in IMAX cinemas and attract viewers during the Easter holiday season as well.
Initially scheduled for a January release, the debut of Mickey 17 has been delayed due to a shift in the release date for Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. The new release date for Michael is now before April 18, 2025, which in turn affected the timing of Mickey 17’s premiere.
Originally planned for release on IMAX and other high-end screens, the previously mentioned film has now been pushed back by Lionsgate to October 3, 2025. This shift leaves the April release date open.
On finding that April 18th was open, we swiftly seized the opportunity to schedule Mickey 17 for that date.
As a devoted fan, I’m equally thrilled to share that our studio is excited about the upcoming release of Mickey 17. This time around, you’ll be able to enjoy it on the grand screens of IMAX theaters!
The project’s launch was postponed from March 29, 2024, to January 2025, due to the fatiguing Hollywood strikes that took place in 2024.)
Regarding the empty spot on January 31st, the studio has decided to move up the release of their psychological thriller “Companion”, originally scheduled for a January 10, 2025 debut, to that date instead.
Back in the year 2025, I’ve been eagerly awaiting something extraordinary from Warner Bros., and boy, did they deliver! You see, they had marked April 18th for an unnamed project that was destined for the holiday season. But now, with Mickey 17 gracing our screens on that very date, it’s clear to me that their decision is nothing short of genius! I can hardly contain my excitement!
This movie is directed by the same talent behind “Parasite,” which clinched the Oscar for Best Picture at the 92nd Oscars, making it the first non-English film to secure that honor.
The movie titled “Mickey 17” is adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel of the same name and features Robert Pattinson in the leading role. Joining Pattinson in this film are a host of other talented actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie, and Steve Park.
