As a die-hard fan of Tim Burton’s fantastical world and Michael Keaton‘s captivating performances, I can hardly contain my excitement for the long-awaited return of Beetlejuice! The thought of seeing Keaton once again bring the chilling character to life is a dream come true.
Michael Keaton is set to reprise his iconic role as Beetlejuice in the upcoming Tim Burton movie, titled “Beetlejuice.” Known for his chilling portrayal of this character in the 1988 original film, Keaton will once again don the role many years later. Interestingly, the actor has admitted to feeling apprehensive about reprising the character for this sequel.
During an interview with Collider, Michael Keaton candidly discussed returning to the role he once played and admitted that he experienced a bit of apprehension about it.
When asked if anything about reprising his role as Beetlejuice gave him second thoughts, the actor from Batman Returns explained, “In filmmaking, maintaining a high level of energy, speed, and concentration can be challenging because I wasn’t sure about the atmosphere or the method they would use.”
It came to light that the production of the project was taking place at a quaint, old-fashioned studio in Culver City, a location known for its rich history and esteemed status. Upon arriving on set, he admitted that he was uncertain about how the filming would progress or what speed it would maintain.
The actor mentioned that he chose to tackle the role by mirroring the performance from the initial film, stating, “In essence, I simply entered the set thinking, ‘I’ll just do what we did the first time, as closely as possible.’ By then, Tim [Burton] had already visualized it; it was all crystal clear in his mind.” He elaborated that movie scripts often undergo changes during the initial reading phase, as they require improvisation and fine-tuning.
Michael Keaton went on to say that there wasn’t a particular instance when he discovered the Beetlejuice script was flawless. Instead, he expressed that Tim Burton asked him to review it, which took him aback as he felt it was “even superior to something worth adapting.”
The performer from Quicksand stressed that the narrative was strong, the script was effective, and the overall mood was clear. He pointed out that Tim had collaborated with Miles Millar and Alfred Gough during his time working on Wednesday.
In the meantime, the movie titled “Beetlejuice” is set to premiere in cinemas on September 6, 2024. This film includes Jenna Ortega portraying Astrid Deetz, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara playing Delia Deetz, Justin Theroux as Rory, and Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson, along with other talented actors.
