A new trailer for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has been released by Lionsgate, offering fans a glimpse into the singer’s family and childhood. The trailer focuses on Jackson’s parents and how they shaped his career. A particularly powerful moment shows Joe Jackson, portrayed by Colman Domingo, telling his children they must strive to be winners, highlighting his dual role as both father and manager of the soon-to-be Jackson Five.
Okay, so I just watched the trailer, and honestly, it gave me chills. Nia Long, playing Michael’s mom Katherine, has this really touching line – she says she knew Michael was special from the moment he was born, that he had this incredible light. And Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, is playing him! It’s his first big movie role, and he’s stepping into the shoes of the guy who gave us Thriller and basically changed music forever. It’s going to be wild to see him bring that energy to the screen.
His story begins.
The official trailer for MICHAEL – in theaters and IMAX April 24.

Lionsgate released the new trailer on Monday, after a brief preview during the Grammy Awards on Sunday. This is the latest promotion for the film, following an initial trailer released in November 2025 that became incredibly popular. The first trailer racked up 116.2 million views in just 24 hours, making it the most-watched trailer ever for a music biopic. The footage also showed Jaafar Jackson performing some of Michael Jackson’s famous dance moves, like the moonwalk.
I recently got a peek at the details for Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming biopic, Michael, and it’s finally landing in theaters and IMAX on April 24, 2026 – after a few date changes, it seems! Jaafar Jackson is taking on the monumental task of playing Michael, and he’s surrounded by a solid supporting cast. Miles Teller will portray Michael’s attorney, John Branca, while Kat Graham embodies Diana Ross, Laura Harrier is Suzanne de Passe, and Kendrick Sampson steps into the shoes of Quincy Jones. We’ll also see Juliano Krue Valdi as a young Michael. Here in the US, Lionsgate is distributing the film, and Universal Pictures is handling things internationally. It’s shaping up to be a major cinematic event.
The latest trailer offers a glimpse into the family relationships and challenges that influenced Michael Jackson’s journey to stardom. Colman Domingo and Nia Long deliver powerful performances, enriching the story of the Jackson family, and Jaafar Jackson strives to embody the legendary performer’s unforgettable stage presence.
