The biographical film about Michael Jackson, starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson, has been encountering significant setbacks due to a recently uncovered legal problem related to a previous settlement given to one of the singers from “Bad” who accused him of molestation.
Initially slated for release in April 2025, the movie has now been moved to October of this year due to production adjustments by the creators. As per a Puck report dated January 23, 2025, it appears that the filmmakers are revising certain parts of the script and conducting additional shoots in order to refine the film’s content.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when hearing that the King of Pop’s estate overlooked a crucial contract during the film’s settlement with a molestation accuser. This oversight has left nearly the entire third act of the movie virtually unusable for me to immerse myself in the story I’ve been eagerly anticipating.
In 1993, Jackson agreed to a settlement with Jordan Chandler’s family which prohibited any portrayal or reference to their case, as Jordan Chandler, who was 13 at the time, had accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse. The reportedly massive settlement amounted to 25 million USD without a court trial. As a result, the film was reshoot to avoid any content related to this case.
One significant legal issue that arose during the film’s script review was the fact that the previously overlooked settlement agreement plays a crucial role in the narrative, as the Chandler tale comprises a substantial portion of the plot.
Contrary to some sensationalized reports, a representative has clarified to People magazine that the Michael Jackson biopic is not in disarray. The allegations of production delays and halt have been debunked as false. In fact, the movie is progressing well, with reshoots scheduled for March.
As a devoted admirer, I’ve always stood by the fact that the estate of the late Michael Jackson has vehemently refuted every accusation of abuse levied against it. Back in 2005, Michael Jackson was found not guilty of charges related to the alleged molestation of children.
Under the direction of Antoine Fuqua and penned by John Logan, the film titled “Michael” featuring Jaafar Jackson and Colman Domingo will grace movie theaters on October 3rd, 2025.
