Michael Bolton Gets Emotional in First Interview About His Brain Cancer Battle: ‘I Want to Keep Going’

In early 2024, I found myself sharing my personal journey for the very first time. It’s about my fight against glioblastoma, an intensely aggressive type of brain cancer that was detected in me back in December 2023.

In an interview with People, the 72-year-old musician disclosed that his physicians successfully excised a tumor entirely during an operation they performed in December 2023, throughout his five-decade career which netted him two Grammys.

In January 2024, a second operation was necessary for him due to an infection. His chemotherapy and radiation treatments concluded in October of the previous year. Every two months, he receives MRI scans to check if the tumor has reappeared. The most recent MRI scan showed no signs of the tumor returning for the singer.

In a heartfelt conversation with a media outlet, I shared my personal insights on my cancer journey, delving into the emotional depths of my recovery process. I expressed how this battle has compelled me to dig deep into my inner strengths and resilience, resources that I never knew I possessed. Overcoming this challenge is not an option; it’s a fight I’ve been unexpectedly drawn into. In essence, facing such adversity reveals one’s true mettle.

In addition, Bolton mentioned that having others by his side made a significant difference during his cancer fight. Moreover, he conveyed heartfelt appreciation towards his daughters, Holly (age 47), Isa (49), and Taryn (45) for their unwavering support.

In January 2024, Bolton shared with his followers about his health situation for the first time, posting on Instagram that he needed to temporarily step away from touring. At present, he’s residing in his home in Connecticut with his loved ones.

The performer openly acknowledged that cancer has impacted his ability to remember things briefly, speak fluently, and move freely. Yet, he opted against receiving a prognosis and instead decided to concentrate on nurturing hope and strength.

In simpler terms, Bolton expressed that he intends to persist due to his desire for additional time with his loved ones and his belief that there are still important tasks left to accomplish in his ongoing endeavors.
